Batch file

Hi,
I'm just starting java and am getting very annoyed at having to move to the necessary folders to execute the programs via the command line. Is there some kind of batch file I could write which would automatically start the command line in those folder?

Is this windows? You can edit the registry to be able open folders at the command line in the right click explorer menu.

Yeah, I had done that before and that was the method I was thinking of. The batch files was something else. I got totally mixed up there! Thanks

you can thereby make your dos facilities menu driven.

EG Your batch file could do a dir *.java /o -d > dir.txt and then loop through the 8 most recently modified source files presenting a numbered menu of these so you just enter the number of the one you want to compile, you could check for successful compilation and automatically execute the file.

You could set up a desktop icon pointing to a batch file which compiles the most recently modified file in a given directory, or even every java file in that directory, depends on what way you need to work.

Power Toys has something that will do this for you.

This PowerToy adds an "Open Command Window Here" context menu option on file system folders, giving you a quick way to open a command window (cmd.exe) pointing at the selected folder.
