Hi all,I'm on my second provisional licence.Going to be driving down to my girlfriend's home in Templemore next weekend - I'm wondering has anyone done this along the old road?No problems until Naas obviously and fine again after Portlaoise.I'll be doing the test in Deansgrange in less that a month,so hopefully I'll be able to use the M-way next time.Would appreciate any advice from someone who knows this road. Thanks!

hi, I live in Naas and only learning so I drive the old road to Portlaoise, its the R445. Road is good, although traffic can be heavy in Newbridge, the road between Kildare and Monasterevin isn't great though but not the worst either,
it would be so much quicker ( and prob safer) to go on the motorway but until the L plates are gone, its the old road for me! if you were going at a quiet time you would prob get from Naas to Portlaoise in 45 mins. I've often been caught in traffic in Newbridge for 15 mins or more though

Thanks for that Sabrina-I've been looking at the route on http://local.live.com/ and it looks straightforward enough,I assume the R445 is well signposted in Naas, years since I passed through there. Will be tempted by the motorway but I'll resist it-thanks again, and best of luck when you go for your test.
