Sorry, just a quick question, I'm trying to figure out, if not for this year, then the figures for last year; how much did the government earn in tobacco tax, and how much was actually spent on the health system?

I've tried a few googles, but can't quite come up with the figures I'm looking for... if anyone could point me in the right direction, it'd be much appreciated :)

In 2006, we spent €11.96bn (second page) on the HSE. I imagine there's an extra couple of billion unaccounted for there on non-HSE health spending though.

In 2005, we took in €1.08bn in tobacco excise receipts.
