Best deal on getting Sterling?

    Hi,

Hope I have the right forum - apologies if not.

I may be going to the UK to get a car, and was wondering what's the best way to get the best price for sterling. It will probably be only in the order of £6000 or so, but every little helps.

Is it just a case of ringing around the local branches and comparing rates?

    thanks,

    Eoin

Apparently credit card companies often give the best rate, so what you'd want to do is load up a credit card with he amount you'll need and withdraw it over there.

not sure how you'll be fixed with withdrawal limits and the like though. It might be best to give the cc company a ring

That never occurred to me - I'll check into that. Thanks very much.

Beware of the charges though - I know a car Dealer in the UK that was looking to charge 1.5% on the amount to be paid by Credit card, so it would be worthwhile calling ahead to see if the dealer would look to charge that if you were to use your card.

I was thinking the same - I'm just as likely to buy privately, so unless I can use my CC in a bank over there, it may have to be cash.
