    Hi all,

My Dad id finally considering "upgunning" to a 17hmr from a 22lr. My question is can he just swap the licence from the 22 to the 17? or does he have to reapply for a new permit for the 17hmr? Any info would be a great help.

    Thanks Lads.

    Jonty

I could be wrong, but because it is a "smaller calliber" it is a line throught the .22 and insert .17 with the guard filling in an ammendment form for pulse.

it really depends on your stations stance is ,some will do a straight forward admendment on the spot and others will have you to reapply, but for the latter you are applying to your superintendent to have it ammended as you already have a licence.

while we are on the subject of .17HMR
What are people "currently" paying for a box of 50?

(I would love to know per 50 what the cost price would be so
I can get an idea what kinda profit margins are in ammo
    I am guessing not much)

I am just after getting charged 19.99 For 50 Rounds!! from
my local dealer. And he reckons the price will go
up even as far as 30 Euros in the future which sounds like utter and complete
madness!!!!!for Rimfire!!!!!! I overheard a price of some sort of Shotgun shells
at 11 Euros a box too while I was there.

I mentioned that everywhere else in the
country seemed to hover around the 15.50/16.50 Euro range
but he reckons that thats old stock and the next orders that
dealers get in will be more expensive.

Now I heard the whole China buying up the lead and copper story
where its driving up ammo prices but not this much surely!!

The amount of lead and copper is Tiny even a .22LR would have more lead
and they are 1/4 the price.

cheers for the info, You dont happen to know what dealers and where supply Federal brand?
Its a brand I was interesting in trying but cant get my hands upon.

CCI only "Load" all the different brands. not sure if its the same
brass across the brands or not. I have tried both CCI, Remington
and Hornady and found the Hornady to perform the best.
The El-cheapo federal I have not found anyone so far near me that
supplies the Federal brand but I was interested in trying them out.
They have Black poly tips yeah?

my CZ452 liked the 17g V-max Hornady which is my favourite.
but last time I went shooting targets I got great results from their 20g's
which surprised me as they dont feed as well as the v-max but
I was all of a sudden getting tighter groups.

I have tried Remington and CCI brands and they cause split necks!
The Hornady stuff my rifle likes and I get no split necks.
Contacted Remington before they said split necks were not a safety
concern. Cant help but feel less accuracy though as you could be loosing
    fps through split neck rupture.

Remington I get about about 10-15 split necks out of 50
CCI I get about 5-8 split necks out of 50
Hornady I get 1-2 split necks our of 100-150

    Remington are Poo!!!

Look its like this. After September 11 my local gunshop fed me a line of dung saying that .22 mag winchesters couldn.t be shipped across the Atlantic due to the threat from terrorism. I actually think they are made in France??? Not sure though. They tried to pawn off some cheaper tack to me saying it was just as good as the Winchesters. Yet Winchesters were available in other shops.

Price of lead??? 40gr in a .22LR give or take versus 25gr in a 17HMR. There should be a sky rocket in pricing in .22LR bullets if we use the ammo dealers maths. Have any of our fishing brethren experienced a rise in the cost of lead weights? The best place to check if the cost of lead is being passed on to the consumer is in the Local Hardware

I personally think that when an ammo dealer is getting near the end of their supply of one breed of bullets, they increase their price to make the alternative brands which aren't selling, more attractive. Has anybody else noticed the price of ammo can vary from time to time in the same place.

At the end of the day, gun dealers are like everybody else in sales, the majority will say what they have to to get a sale. Remember the Latin expression "Caveat Emptor" - Buyer Beware. It's up to us to shop around at the end of the day.

Just for the record, I'm not paranoid and I don't think its a global conspiracy:D:D

Hey Bullets i've been to the dealer in Limerick and he's 2 3 or 4 € dearer on most ammo.
BTW you could be identified by those prints very good photo:D :D:D

Dealer in Limerick is a nice guy to talk to but
everything he sells that does not require a Licence I can
get for half the price off the web or from the UK.
He's more into the fishing gear more than the gun related items.

To OP your father wont regret changing over to the HMR (other than price of ammo)
Lovely Lovely round apart from a little bit light in weight for wind.
