    Anyone got any experience with this?

    I'm so darn limited to wireless Broadband choices and I want to know as much as possible between each isp before I dive in for a... 12 month contract -.-;

    Just wondering anyway ( Received an email stating that it's available in my location ), knowing that Digiweb does provide respectable services I believe?

    Sigh... Catch-22 situation. I live in the beautiful countryside, lovely scenery and all... and I can't bloody get broadband because of that >_<;

    It's a new service with new technology so not a huge number of users yet.

    It is designed more for Mobile rather than fixed use, so obviously a fixed Wireless service will be more consistent.

    If you have nothing else available you have nothing to lose trying it. It is different technology to the Mobile Phone companies' Mobile Internet so the latency is low (=good). The IP address is not shared with everyone else like some operators.

    Yeah - the best option I can get really at the moment. It doesn't require line of sight, where as the other options for Wireless does, and being in the countryside there's just too many obstructions -.-;

    Would it be a definate improvement over my dial-up regardless? :p

    If you cancelled the phone line it would be cheaper (it doesn't offer any built in phone serives as it is a pure Internet Connection). If you are on ordinary analogue dialup it should be a better experience.

    Unlike 3G/HSDAP and dialup it can cope with short signal outages when mobile without losing the connection or breaking a download.

    You can't really know until you try it from your own location.

    I'm also thinking of getting digiweb mobile. It's €29.95 a month, it say's traffic allowance is 15Mb I'm not sure wat this means. Then it say's excess charge 5c per Mb! Does this mean i can only download 15Mb per month and anything after that i get charged 5c per Mb????

    I assume you actually mean 15GB and not 15MB as there's a massive difference! :)

    Generally speaking company's offer a cap and then charge between 3-5c per MB over the cap which can equal 35e +/- per 1GB so it can get expensive, at the end of the day not many providers charge users for going over it unless they really take the piss.

    [EDit] Yes its 10GB or 15GB http://www.digiweb.ie/mobile/

    yes it is 15Gb sorry!!!! Is it just wireless broadband that has an extra charge on it?

    Nope. Most DSL providers also reserve the right to charge for excess usage

    All MOBILE internet has an excess charge beyond cap (very similar on all the operators.

    Fixed Wireless Broadband varies. Some cut you off. Others charge excess. Digiweb switch you to a slower speed while you are over cap and use the last 30 days added up.
    ADSL operators vary on what they do:
    Some operators have "Fair Use" which means there is a cap, but they won't tell you what it is (though in many cases it may be high).
    UPC (Chorus/NTL) I think has caps and fair use.

    Fair Use
    Really everyone has "fair use". If they sell a domestic package, then the ISP is not going to be happy if a Management Company pipe it to a whole apartment block. The users won't be happy either as they may end up with less than dialup speed. There are business and commercial packages from many companies to econmically meet those kind of application.

    Well - there's a 14 day 'trial' period with full refund if I'm not happy with it. So worth a shot :)

    You mentioned you got an email saying it was available in your area. Do you live outside Fingal and if so does this mean digiweb are starting to roll out elsewhere?

    The coverage is a bit more than your actual Fingal, I think. They will be rolling it out more, but not this week.

    I've already ordered for it - just waiting for it to arrive via mail now :)

    hey watty (or anyone that is using digiweb mobile), can you explain how the phone works? is it just like a mobile disguised as a home phone or what? does the phone connect to the router or pick up a wireless signal? is it possible to use it like a fixed line (e.g. connect to a sky box for box office etc...)?

    Hi all
    Currently have a 3 mb DSL BT package which costs 55 euro a month.

    I went through clearwire, 3, vodafone and finall made the plunge and got a phone line in.

    I have never gotten over 100k download speed. Sick of paying so much for so little.

    So the question is how is the download speeds on this?

    I m in Swords.

    Did'nt know that must try pointing mine towards that side so and see if it is any better never get over 800kbs

  • Registered Users Posts: 32,417 ✭✭✭✭watty

    The hotel in balbriggan .... Have you visited it lately?

    There are various models of routers for the Digiweb Modem (only work if bought / package from digiweb as it is NOT 3G/HSDPA, different firmware). Only one has phone port. It takes an ordinary phone, cabled or DECT cordless. I don't know if it works with Sky. I suspect not reliably at present, maybe in the future. Ordinary voice calls need about 12kbps upload. Sky digibox or Fax or analogue modem needs nearly 100k upload.

  • Registered Users Posts: 1,451 ✭✭✭Onikage

    This may be slightly off topic but it occurs to me that it is in Sky's interest NOT to allow this type of mobile phone line to work with it's boxes. So even if it works today, it may not work tomorrow.

  • Registered Users Posts: 32,417 ✭✭✭✭watty

    Nothing to do with Sky. If digiweb does provide a phone service, it will have real numbers. Sky would get in serious trouble if they blocked number ranges.

    It's in Sky's interest to sell subscriptions. They won't care how the boxes phone home.

    I'll swap you my upload speed for yours, because that sure as hell beats the pants of anything I've got in the last 3 weeks. Only I'm on Metro (a fixed wireless product, which you'd expect to be more reliable).

    Did anyone try replacing your outdoor unit?

    No, the case is now officially closed (Level 2 Support have officially declared that 10% upload speed at 4am is fine).
