Additionally I've not heard of anyone dying from lack of sex.
Civilisation could die out from lack of sex.

Africa was better off colonised by the racist Europeans tbh. The people who could actually run a country. However the Europeans gave them their land back and they turned it in to AIDS and dust.

Hopefully once AIDS wipes out Africa we can colonise once again. If the Americans don't get there first that is.
I know this was tongue in cheek, but I was watching a program on TV last week going on about the king of Belgium of all place was responsible for all sorts of atrocities in the Congo, they quoted figures as high as 50% of the population dead  And this wasnt the King doing this for the benefit of the people of Belgium, it was for his own benefit only (and funnily enough, he had everyone harvesting rubber)

Pope John Paul II said some similarly ridiculous **** about condoms before too.

He is also resposibly for loss of life.

Oh yes John Paul is completely to blame for the thousands dying everyday on the African continent.
I think we need to get a bit of perspective here. Firstly, the vast numbers of Africans die of hunger, inhumane living conditions, slave labour etc and those who die of HIV are more a knock on effect from these preexisting conditions.
Secondly,The catholic church has about as much influence in Africa as Judaism has in Ireland i.e not much.
Yes what the bishop said is stupid but Its a complete fabricated myth that people in Africa are dying because of the churchs stance on contraception. Africans are dying because western countries are completely raping the African people of their natural recoures's. The multinationals and western governments want us to believe that its the churchs fault and relish it when crazy Bishops like this one make outlandish statements like this. Its because it deflects from the real problems and causes of poverty and disease in a country so full of natural recources.Africa to them (i.e western countries and multinationals) is a continent full of resources to be exploited, a place to buy cheap raw materials,a place to exploit workers that have nothing.
The HIV epidemic could be easily solved if the Africa people were the rightful owners of their land and minerals. Then they could actually trade and buy for themsleves the ARV's,proper medical care and decent living condions they so desperatly need and desreve.
Its a lot easier for us to blame the catholic church though....

Basically, scientific proof that abstinence does not work.

    orly??

"Unfortunately (and surprisingly) only two of the studies addressed the question of disease transmission directly, and the numbers involved were too small to find a statistically significant difference between groups"

actually fook it, now that i think of it theres no proof there that abstinenece doesnt work. The research was into abstinence education. I  mightily at you.

If you're still going to go on and say that preaching abstinence to the world at large has prevented people having sex, then I  mightily at you. It has never worked at any time in history, and all it is causing now is people catching disease needlessly instead of spending the time spent preaching abstinence, into showing people how to have sex safely.

People are dying needlessly when a little eduction would stop it. The studies linked to above only prove that point.

Actually the only mass abstinence campaign ran in recent times ,run by the goverment and not the church, has been in Russia and this proved quite effective with std levels and teen preganacys rates being much lower then in the years before when 'safe sex' wwas taught.

I have always abstained from sex.
Not through choice, mind you. I'm just the sort of person who couldn't score in a brothel.
It has kept me child free and disease free though.
