Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

I picked up Halo 3 the other day and was getting stuck into it on the normal difficulty.
I was storming through the 2nd set of missions when glancing at the achievements I was yet to unlock I noted there were only 5 more after this one.
Couple that with the fact that there was no challenge at all in the game, that most of the level space was being unused as I was just running and gunning.
I decided to do the right thing.
I deleted my game save and started again, on heroic...
    What a transformation!
Its like a new game, the enemies are smarter, not just standing up to more bullets, they force the hero to use very inch of the landscape to find cover, snipe and use stealth to move forward.

Honestly, I get the impression that anyone playing this on normal is going to feel quite short changed, go for heroic instead.

I can't imagine what the easy level must be like!

Yeah I agree. I actually started out on heroic but switched to normal which I now regret as I stormed through the whole campaign in about 5 hours. I hadn't played Halo in ages which is why heroic seem really difficult at first. Also I'd been playing Bioshock a lot which even on hard is pathetically easy in comparison.

    Seconded.

Heroic isn't frustrating at all. It's challenging and you'll die allot but it's much more of a game.

note: the 'chose difficulty' screen in the game says that Heroic is the way it's supposed to be played!

Yup, I agree. Jumped straight into Heroic as I want to get good training for online. Normal is just too easy.

a lot of peolle will be put off by heroic as the balance of dificulty is way off - .i.e the first level on heroic is much much harder than the last - if i have one major gripe with the game (aside from the story) its to do with the learning curve, or lack of a logical one, in the game and the imbalance of chalenge - also as many have said - there is a problem with normal being far far too easy - and heroic seems too hard (which - as we know its not, it just will put off many gamers off with how it starts) and when played on normal - the game is very short - so the focus is then purely on the story (which - is terrible - just so bad and cliched) rather than the challenge of the game

Anyone tried it on legendary? Haven't myself, wondering if it's like Halo 2 legendary at all?

im playing it on legendary at the moment, the only difference from it and heroic is you have to be a lot more patient really

I remember breezing through Halo2 in no time at all, sure it was breathtaking and all that, but overall, no challenge. Simply not making the same mistake this time.
Great news that there maybe a prequel trilogy on the way, lovely jubbly!
I would like to see proper 360 made versions of Halo and Halo 2, perhaps in a double pack, nice!

What a let down, sure the graphics are fantastic and it is very slick but there is nothing new here, I made the mistake of playing it on normal and pissed trough it I could not believe it was that short.
The multi-player part is where the new version looks great.I have only played the two player options as my broadband ping is ****(that's another post)
If this was a new franchise I would be impressed but I would rather play halo2 again.

Playing the game with some degree challenge so that you feel like you're accomplishing something while still being great fun is the point of the game. Playing online against other equally skillful players is another huge aspect of the game. It's not revolutionary but as Mark Rein puts it "This game is so fun to play, everything works just right".

Pissing through the game is not the point you fool (but that's another post).

I never said pissing trough the game was the point, in fact you are the one who doesn't get it, I did not find it challenging as the difficulty was too easy on normal and I made the point that I probably should have played it on the harder level, that said it was too short and lacked originality "I wish I was like you easily amused"

I found Legendary alot easier in Halo 3 than 2. And as was said above the learning curve in this game is a bit messed up. The first level is harder than some of the later levels.

I went through the game first on Normal and then straight to Legendary, I was expecting it to take a full day or two but I got through it in about 8-9 hours yesterday. I was expection more of challange like CoD2 on Vetern, that I can't do to save my life.

Playing it on Heroic and wasnt impressed for the first 20 mins but loving it since them. Dieing quite a lot but fighting a dozen brutes in confined space is great fun!

I have to say I was a little disappointed with the campaign, even on Heroic or Legendary. Like a previous poster said, Legendary just takes time to go through.

The levels were big spaces, but not really utilised well I thought. Earth had been overrun with Covenant forces, but you didn't get to fight big armies of them, which would have been great.

All the build up by the developers about getting to fights that you could see in the distance and taking part in them didn't really come true.

I understand they have to have a trade off between game play, telling the story etc, but There could have been a least one or two levels thrown in where you had big epic battles with the covenant forces.

The level where you have to rescue Cortana was joke. Easily the worst level in the game.

9 levels, and piss easy on normal, I think Bungie didn't deliver the fight people wanted to finish. Graphically I thought the game looked very well, and the cut scenes where good too.

I feel the made more of a Matrix Revolutions of it rather than LOTR: Return Of The King.

A little underwhelmed with the campaign mode as I say. It'll really flourish in on-line mode, which I think they had their eye on more so than the campaign.
