I'm thinking the same thing about this album as I thought about Neon Bible earlier this year - someone else could have made it...
By which I mean I don't think anyone but Radiohead could have made the previous 4 or 5 albums, and nobody but Arcade Fire could have made Funeral.
Even though it's good, this album is comparatively pedestrian in my opinion.

I like it, hadn't heard any of the tracks before on a scale that would have spoiled it for me.

"All I need" is stand out for me not sure I agree with the Eraser comment on it, I feel it fits and is a Radiohead track.

Incidentally until the cover art is released, this one just cracks me up (!) ...

Still putting it on most days. It's a really really f*cking good album. The songs that I didn't like as much (all I need, Videotape) have really grown on me. House of Cards and Jigsaw have really shot up the ranks and Nude and Reckoner are still two of the best songs I've ever heard.

Radiohead have been and always will be one of my favorite bands, but I still don't know what to make this album. I don't like to compare each album to the next as I think a lot of bands do tend to change their style...however, when I first listened to 'Ok Computer' I immediately fell in love with every song on that album...I guess I was just hoping this album would have that same effect, but after my first listen there was only about 3 songs that I actually like (Faust Arp,The Reckoner and 15 step)...its not an album I could put on repeat or walk to college in the mornings listening to. As a reviewer on Pitchfork said, its a "user-friendly ablum" which I sadly agree with....still the greatest band in the world though!

Hmm...dunno if this is true or not, but then again I wouldn't surprise me if it is!
The playlist that they have on that article is a nice way to listen to the 2 albums tho.

Thats... not bad at all actually :)

Whether it's "true" or not, the albums do seem to fit together quite nicely. First listen at the moment.. on Faust Arp (which is, I think, track 13 on this playlist).

It probably helps that they're two great albums to start with :)

If you divide the total album length in seconds- 2554 secs, by the golden ratio-1.618... you arrive at 2.49 secs into reckoner which is where the violins begin. The In Rainbows section begins at 2.50 which is very close to the golden ratio. If you were to consider the In Rainbows section to begin symbolically at the 2.49 section then its all about the golden ratio.

Makes sense, I heard they were Bartók fans

yeah, that would be cool if it was the case, that section is definitely a lot spookier in a profound sense because it comes in at the golden ratio.

Gettin back to the binary conspiracies, there is deffo a musical link to this album and OK Computer. Rather than linking track with track however take the binary appraoch and it sounds even better. Track 1 of OK with track 10 of In. try it, its cool

I paid nothing for the download because I ordered the discbox. Still a week and a half to wait :(

Finally got around to downloading the album yesterday, decided to pay zero for it on the grounds that I'm a cd fan, i dont own a mp3 player. Only got broadband last week, hence the delay in downloading it. I will be buying the cd when it is released.

I'll post my thoughts in a few days when i've had a few good listens.

Fantastic album. Far better than I was expecting, house of cards or nude are the highlights for mise. Videotape does sound a bit flat, the live versions come across better in my opinion.

I think this is a pretty mediocre album tbh, by Radiohead standards anyway. If it were any other band I would be applauding them but maybe Radiohead have set the bar too high for themselves. They have shown themselves to be consistently innovative in the past but I can't pick out any significant new ideas in this album.

Having said that, there are some solid tunes on the album, just nothing really new and nothing to get excited about IMO. Radiohead should always be applauded for doing so much to bring innovative electronic music to the masses and this album still does that somewhat, just not to the extent previous albums did.

I have to say that I paid nothing for the download.
I can sleep at night because my girlfriend is buying me the discbox for Christmas.
If the disc had been available immediately in music stores, I would've bought it on the day of release as I'm sure a lot of fans would. A lot of people have said that Radiohead lost a ton on this because the majority of people paid nothing for the album. Granted, if the cd had been available immediately or there was a fixed minimum on the download, they would've made more.
However, quite an interesting experiment and one that only a band of Radioheads calibre/bank account can afford.

In my opinion, they will make up any losses when the cd is released in 2008.

Have you figures to show what they made on this and to demonstrate their loss?
When you look at how an artist makes of a label released cd, its very small per cd, around a euro.

Stop trying to justify yourself cheaping out! :D

But AFAIK Irish people paid on average more than any other country. <- Citation needed.

But can't wait for the tour!

Does anyone hear two alternate versions the rhythm section for Bodysnatchers? Its weird, one version sounds wrong, the drums come after the guitars, whereas the other version sounds much more in sync. I keep hearing it the wrong way around but its good on the rare occassion that I hear the right version.
