    i've got a ntl cable modem hooked up to a linksys wrt300n wireless router. The modem works fine using ethernet cable to laptop but not through the wireless router. I can connect to the wireless network and a ratio of 3 packets sent to 1 recieved is shown but i cannot open a webpage or router homepage. I've tried resetting the router but it did not solve anything,what could be wrong with it?

    is the link cable from the NTL box plugged into the WAN or LAN side of the Linksys

    the ntl box is plugged into a socket called internet which i imagine is wan. There are 4 ports beside it called ethernet ports. I should also add that if i connect a cable from laptop into an ethernet port i can access the routers config page

    first thing to do would be;

    unplug link cable from the Internet socket and plug into one of the 4 LAN sockets

    use the ntl DHCP and turn off DHCP in the linksys...otherwise you will get IP address conflicts.

    Next, get the 2 boxes on the same IP range, ie, 192.168.*.* ie, compare the IP settings you get from both boxes and agree on which range you are going to use

    You're basically using the Linksys as an Access Point, ie, a "wireless" wire! Be sure to enable security, WPA...forget WEP because it's not secure and is crackable.

    The above might seem like a big mouthful...so any other Qs, fire away.

    I would disagree with the "use NTL DHCP" I've never used it but some have said it doesn't work.

    Are you powering off your NTL modem when you connect the wirelss router to it?

    Unplug NTL modem, connect to router, plug in NTL modem. It should work.

    i disabled the dhcp in router config page and can access the net through the router if i connect the laptop to it using a ethernet cable.

    Human you said about setting a range,can u look over the ipconfig/all and tell me if i should change the unsure if i should change the 254 for the wireless ip

    The wireless is not connected. It looks as if you might have the wrong Wireless key looking at the IP address.

    No bad idea. The NTL is just a modem and has no firewall. Never plug it to LAN side of a router.
