I have one of these dogs, as you all probably know he is a gundog. I don't shoot, but like the gundogs temperament, so I usually have one.

Recently I met up with friends who have them and they warned me about theft.

Seemingly criminal gangs are targeting houses that have gundogs knocking about. They are basically putting two and two together and reckoning if there is a gun dog, there is a rifle or shotgun. So if you have retrievers, pointers, flushers or whatever, keep an eye out!

Cheers for the heads up, good advice. You can be damn sure if a few guys break into your house looking for guns they mean business. Scumbags.

Id be more worried about the dog! Certain 'types' of people have taken to stealing pedigree dogs then ringing up when the see the "reward" posters and more henious, Ive heard the same Type of person has stolen pet dogs and used the pet to train fighting dogs, filing down the pets teeth and letting the fighting dog fight/savage it.

Thanks for the reminder. Not that long ago one of our local club members had a similar incident. On a less serious note, if they come for the lab they might get the jaw of the ferociously territorial sheepdog :D

Theres been a few lurchers stolen around Co. Wicklow in the last few weeks as well.
My neighbour the gamekeeper has recently invested in a lovely rottweiler for this very reason I'd imagine.
