3 TUE OCT 2 Coffin Dodgers 0 3 Dunbar Pensioners
3 TUE OCT 2 IFG United 5 Fred West Ham
    3 TUE OCT 2 SS Rovers 2 1 Ravenhill
3 MON OCT 1 IBM DSL FC 2 0 Eddie Rockets

This weeks results above. Fred West Ham beat San Marino reserves 5-0. Which is what you'd expect at least. Our opponents next week Ravenhill have lost 2 and drawn one but only lost by a goal each time. Eddie Rockets have lost all their games as have IFG. Looks early days but Fred West Ham look to be our main challengers for the title

In fairness, they were absolutely shocking :)

The reason I call them that is because we escaped with a victory in the dying minutes. Just like Ireland did v San Marino. It's not like we haven't played them yet

4 TUE OCT 9 Coffin Dodgers 3 0 Eddie Rockets
4 TUE OCT 9 IBM DSL FC 0 3 SS Rovers

Results from last week. Meant to be another result there but no sign of it. SS Rovers are in second behind Fred West Ham. Dunbar Pensioners are 3rd and we're 4th. We play IBM DSL FC on Tuesday. They've played 3 and have 4 points

Fred West Ham and Dunbar both won last night meaning they've both won all their games. Yet to play each other

ideally 2 draws when they play each other, meaning we could gain back 4 points on each of them, leaving us to play each of them once more.

Dunbar beat Trinity 1-0 tonight giving them 7 wins from 7. And Fred West Ham beat IBM 4-0 to give them 8 from 8. We're playing for 3rd place lads. Which after last night will hopefully come at the expense of SS Rovers

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 6,081 ✭✭✭LeixlipRed

Trinity beat Eddie rockets and IBM beat Coffin Dodgers in this weeks other games. IBM and SS Rovers still lie between us and the top 2

Aye, but IBM play Dunbar next week. Draw would be nice ;)

IBM got hammered 5-0 by Dunbar, SS Rovers won too so we're 4th.

IBM still have game in hand, if they beat Eddie Rockets nxt week, as one would assume they might, they leapfrog us so we'll probably be back 5th next week as we've no game.

SS Rovers are now 3rd, 1pt ahead of us also with a game in hand nxt week V Ravenhill.

Make sense of all that ;)

This week saw Fred West Ham beat IFG 3-0, Dunbar beat coffin dodgers 2-0, SS Rovers beat Ravenhill (our next opponents) 4-0 and IBM beat Eddie Rockets 2-0.

The table has been updated and all the teams have played at least 7 games, we have played 9 games and are 4th. None of the teams below us can over take us if they win there games in hand.

This is a good point to start the second half of the season from. We really need to push on from here and put pressure on the teams about us. I think it's not unreasonable to feel that we can go on an unbeaten run for the next 9 game, we just need to put the effort in.

Think it involved something about scoring more goals ;)

IBM have a real problem with players, some weeks they only start with 9-10 and some weeks they finish with only 10. Guess this was one of those weeks.

Eddie Rockets have a problem with players too.

There back line, midfield and forwards are all from different continents.

I can't imagine communication is very good on that team at all.

Although, as the ref said, football is an international language.

the table looks alot better for us now that its updated...only 3 teams have scored more and conceded less than us, so looks like we doing ok. ss rovers should be in our sights....we owe them one for what happened when we played them...

Now that the dust has settled (just noticed that every single score has been entered on astro.ie so its all up-to-date) on last nights games and we're exactly half way through the season, 2 things are clear. We can't win the league and we should be looking to win every single game from now til the end of the season. We only have to play 2 games against teams above us and then 7 games against those below us. Even a full 27 points wont win the league I dont think but it's definitely achievable (the 27 points that is :D)

0-0 draw between the top 2 last night. It's tight at the top

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 41,926 ✭✭✭✭_blank_

    Hmm.

    It sure is.

We need to beat IBM next week, that should secure at least 4th place for us.

They are 5 points behind us, with a game in hand, so we'd have to call that 2 points.

And then we'll have to beat SS Rovers to leapfrog them, and continue making ground on the top two.

We are ten points off top spot, if we can halve that, and finish third this season will be successful, imo.

Having said that, a fourth place finish is looking likely, and isn't too bad, considering the progress we are making.

Remember, this is this team's third season in existence, and in reality at this stage this particular group of players have been playing together for what? 16/17 games? The second half of last season and the first half of this.

The lads who have been here since the start will recognise the progress from us being whipping boys and finishing second last, into last season where we "unlucky" in games, finishing 7th, and into this where we are very disappointed if we don't come away from game with three points and are looking for a top 4 finish at the very least.

It's looking good lads, this progress pleases me. :)

Without putting too much pressure on any one game, it is important we get a result against IBM because if we were to lose that fixture then they would go 2pts behind us with a game in hand.

If we win, we open up an 8pt gap between us and them which would be hella nice going into the Eddie Rockets game in the new year.

We could probably consider the game next week to be a mini-decider for 4th place.

Looking upwards, if we win next week we'd only be 7pts off Fred West Ham with same number of games played. If we're looking over our shoulder at IBM and Trinity Biotech, then FWH and Dunbar should be looking over theirs at Boardeaux and SS Rovers and with good cause.

We've already had more slip ups than we can afford, so it's a big ask for us to go the rest of the season undefeated but I think if we approach each game the same and not rest on our laurels we'll be ready to pounce when (not "if") the Top 3 slip up.

    Thanks for stopping by.

Dunbar are due a slip up. What's interesting is that Dunbar's last two games are against SS Rovers and ourselves. If they lose those two and Fred West Ham slip up elsewhere it might not be over yet. What's important is that we keep winning

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,032 ✭✭✭FrankGrimes

I reckon we should be looking to at least win the 2nd half of the season and to finish 3rd at least.

8 games left = 24 points. We're all pushing for all 24 points, and we shouldn't be satisfied with anything less than 20 points from those last 24. That would put us on 38 points from a possible 54, not bad but we should really be looking for better this season and next season.

We're benefitting from a much more stable squad this season with less turnover, though we do have a high number of injuries. The more players settle into their position and build up understandings with those around them the better, and its not just our results that have improved cos of this - its great to see the improvement as a team but also in each individual player. This team is going places.

    Iago's tip of the day:

when 6 of your first 11 cry off the afternoon of the game, and you arrive at the ground to find the lights off and the pitch closed because it's frosted over, just go home and accept it wasn't meant to be.

Don't under any circumstances agree to a different venue and play the game regardless. Otherwise notwithstanding scoring a prime candidate for goal of the season you'll have the sickening task of informing others of the shambolic performance that surrounded that goal.

    Eddie Rockets 4 Dunbar 2

Throws it wide open. With a miracle akin to a virgin giving birth we could still win this league

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 8,323 ✭✭✭Savman

I've been saying (to Des) for weeks that teams like Eddie Rockets are always a danger to pull off a couple of surprise results.

Now they've just won 2 on the trot and they're off the bottom so you have to give them due credit and not expect an easy ride on 3rd Jan.

    Let's not go nuts :D
Dunbar still have to play FWH again, be interesting to see which way that swings. Also our last game is V Dunbar so that's sizing up to be a fairly important fixture in the grand scheme of things.

Long way to go yet tho.

Euromillions Lotto numbers for Friday please Martin, we could do with a few water bottles or something. :)

Even with the **** teams in these leagues, every team will slip up!! Important that we take the Eddie Rockets game very seriously now. They're on a roll :D

Also, anyone remember GeoDocs, the team that knocked us out of the cup last season on penos? Won all their games in Division 3 so far. That's what we should aim for :D

IBM's next 2 games are against FWH and Dunbar, cant see them getting anything from those games.
So bearing that in mind it looks like the Top 4 have pulled away a bit.

Both ourselves and SS Rovers still a lot to do to catch Top 2.
