I know that most cycle lanes are crazy but this one on the North Circular Road in Dublin takes the biscuit.

Haven't seen it in the flesh, but presumably it prevents the cyclists being smashed into by cars turning left

/edit, just saw the sign...beats me

Where exactly is that? Just past St. Peter's church? I live near there but don't recall seeing that particular abomination before.

Is that the one just down from Dalymount Park? If it is, it allows cyclists to turn right towards O'Connell Street, I've used it a few times and found it quite good but I can see how someone going straight on would find it a nuisence. There should probably be a second lane marked out on the left side of the straight lane and arrows put into the right turning cycle lane.

Exactly, it's a lane for cyclists who want to turn right and head toward O'Connell Street (which in my experience, having lived right by where that photo was taken, is most of them). Nobody expects you to use that lane if you're heading straight down NCR.

It's got broken white line, so cars and trucks can use it too.

I know the one. It's definitely for people turning right onto Berkeley Road.

Its just east of the old ice skating place and as Ghost Rider says its for turning right onto Berkley Road

Yeah that's the one, you go straight past the mater hospital and down to where all the motorbike shops are and onto O'Connell Street. It's great for getting into lane to turn right. Nothing wrong with it at all.

It's a broken white line for cars to go in and out of that side road. You'll see it turns solid just beyond that junction.

    I like it, in theory.
But didn't somebody say before that a cycle track *has* to be on the left hand side of the road?

Only if it's a single white line.

Excellent! Go back through the previous months (if you haven't already). All cycle paths should have "decorative" bollards and dismount signs at random intervals.

In Ireland, 'cyclists dismount' signs cannot be legally enforced. Indeed, so carelessly were our regulations written, there is no legally defined sign for 'End of Cycle Track'.

Where is it on the NCR?
