Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

Is there much difference between hdmi and normal scart when playing games?

I want to buy a TV for my xbox and im wondering is it worth upgrading to the elite for HDMI or should I just stick with normal scart connection? Also is there premium consoles that can have HDMI? I read that on here awhile ago somewhere?

This is all going through after I attempt the vga cable with my 30" LCD I use for my pc... Which I doubt is going to work...

Scart is SD, HDMI is HD so yes, big difference.
If the VGA doesn't work though (it should) and you are buying a new TV, component will give you HD as well so no need to upgrade to an elite.
Some premium's do have HDMI, but not many yet, you'd need to check the box for the HDMI logo.

I just got an Xbox from Gamestop in Stephen's Green, a Premium system, and it came with HDMI...

I think you are getting a bit confused.

The original Xbox 360s connected to High Definition TVs using either a Component Connection or a VGA connection.

Both these connections are analog, but do High Definition. Now there is debate as to whether the picture improves that much with HDMI, which is a High Definition only digital connection. Certainly you don't get effected by noise on the cables and stuff. But a lot of people contend there is not much noticeable difference.

As McGovern points out though, Scart is a Standard Definition connection.

Upgrading from a Standard Definition TV to a new High Definition TV will make a huge difference in terms of quality, whether you use a Component connection or a HDMI connection. Its like playing the Xbox 360 on a really big computer monitor.

Because of the way the original Xbox 360 was designed (with an analog A/V out), it is very unlikely that you will see a HDMI connection ever coming out for the original Xbox 360s.

I've heard that in about 6 months the "Elite" console will just become the premiere console, and the old analog A/V consoles will be retired, replaced by the "Elite" style consoles that can do both analog and digital A/V, like the PlayStation 3.

[EDIT] This seems to be not 100% correct http://xbox360.ign.com/articles/811/811669p1.html[/EDIT]

So short answer, if you are buying a new High Definition TV it is probably not worth upgrading to the "Elite" console, at least not for the time being. The Component connections on your Xbox 360 will allow you to do high definition on your new TV.
