Thoughts on used 42" Panny PV-70

I just moved to Belgium (I'm American, but been overseas for 10 years) from Germany and am in the market for a better television than our (faithful) 29" Phillips CRT unit.

I have the chance to purchase a used 42" Panny PV70 from a guy upgrading to a 50" - for 1000 euro. Supposed to be three months old... Supposed to have transferrable warranty.

The way I understand it, this unit has a 720 (or 768) resolution, not 1080i or p, but at 10' viewing distance (and a *reasonable* price) I wonder if this will matter that much. (At this price point I'm thinking it's a small trade-off.)

The specifications seem to indicate this set will play from an NTSC source as well as PAL, a handy feature since I have my US NTSC DVD player with me (along with many movies). Will the PV70 actually play NTSC movies?

Also, the 50" in the store has a 100Hz refresh rate option - does the 42" PV70 have this option?

I'll be using my existing Satellite receiver for most of my viewing.

What it boils down to is this:
I can do a lot of research (like when I purchased a 60" Sony XBR2 1080p rear projection set for my Mum), and spend a lot more money (on a 1080p Pioneer or Panasonic)
    OR
I can purchase this set and forget about it.

the tv will play your american discs just fine. also, at 42", i'd doubt you could tell 1080p from 720p. bigger screen maybe, but not at that size.if you have a seperate sound sytem, the 70 is a great bargain. The 700 has better sound, but that is a mute point if you are not using the audio outputs.

check the online prices new, supposedly the 70 is being replaced with a model that has a full 1080p panel, so you may get a good deal on a new one

the pv70 isnt being replaced, the have a new 1080p 42" that is going to sell as well as the PV70.

you can buy a new one for 1500 in ireland, dont know about belgium.... but 500 of a saving very good for that tv.

Thanks guys. I saw the list price on the 1080p 42" Panny was 1999 euro, but didn't know what the "real" price was.
I'll have a look at the used 42" when it gets to the dealer; think it might be good to just pull the trigger and get it.
