Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

Importing a Phone

    Hi Folks,

Apologies if this has been asked already, is it worth importing a phone from somewhere like the USA (where the $ is weak) and the phone is unlocked.

I'm looking at purchasing the Nokia N95 8Gb new & unlocked. If anyone could give me some pointers on purchasing online from abroad i would appreciate it.

What should I be wary of? The reason i'm searching online is that the price of the phone is expensive in shops........

    Any feedback is appreciated!

Beware of Customs. They could end up making the phone a hell of a lot more expensive

I purchased a phone before from Ebay, from the UK without any problems. When do customs charge on mobile phones?

At least 21%, plus the courier might charge a 'customs handling fee' which can be anything.

On the other hand, you can be lucky and not pay a cent. Generally snail mail is less likely to be picked up by customs but its no guarantee. Courier shipped packages tend to always be picked up.

ok, can you recommend where to purchase online.... where are phones generally purchased for the best price beside ebay. I have found some websites but im unsure if they are dodgy.....

Is the 8GB N95 "US market phone" compatible with the bands in EU?

the N95 8GB will be out here before it is in the US.

Could be more expensive there as well unless you wait several months after it's been released

AFAIK, any ebay seller of an 8Gig Nokia N95 is a scam. They're not launched yet. Also if you get a standard N95, it will work with an 8Gig microSD when they're available, plus the 8Gig would be removable. In the N95 spec sheet, it says support for up to 2Gig, but that was written when this was the max available. Forums are full of people using 6 Gig already

Purchases outside EU are not covered by warranty in Europe, plus you run the risk of customs / vat, etc.

    eg this is fake
Be careful, don't be Penny wise, Pound foolish
