now you're just showing off. :p

just did a test and I managed 4 at once too, on a 3mbps connection. according to YT's blurb on the site, you need a 512kbps connection to get the full benifit of the site so in theory we should be able to manage 6 at once.

if only life was like youtube. :D

I tried it this morning, and nothing would load. I thought it might have been Peer Guardian blocking it, as this caused me issues before with cisco.com but disabling PG made no difference.

I'm now in work - and the video I tried this morning, works fine in here.

I just tried a few you tube videos on BT at home and they came down no problem, first time in weeks. I will try a few more later today and tonight and see if it’s still works.

I can see that BT has now moved away from the cogent network and they are using Level3.net instead.

This is what has apparently fixed the problem.

It seems clear now that the problem laid between Esat linx router and london's cogent switch, not at cogent like someone already said, so it was a routing issue after all, someone already said that me thinks.

There's still testing going on but everything is running smoothly now.
BT’s linx router was sending all youtube requests through the cogent’s network in London and they were apparently overloaded. This new route should do the trick.

The video files on Youtube come from cache.googlevideo.com, that's where you should be doing the traceroutes to. They have a data centre in Europe and another in the US, so you'll getter better performance if your ISP is using the EU servers.

Well, I have found yt unusable over the last week, I'm on a 2 meg Eircom package and have never had a difficulty. Speeds are fine.

Are you BT people still having issues as of now?

  • Registered Users Posts: 13,016 ✭✭✭✭vibe666

still working fine for me on a 3mbps BT connection, and that's with my PS3 downstairs downloading demo's flat out and my PC up here downloading torrents too.

trey starting yourself a "youtube on eircom sucks" thread and see if you get any responses. worked for me. :)

is it still working for everybody? mine isnt working. buffers every few seconds. i rang bt a few weeks ago and they said its a problem my end because they ran a check by making me begin a download from a bt website and check my speed that way which was up to scratch.

if anyone cares to help me check this thread and my hijackthis reports because i dont understand them at all! thanks!

i'm on the 3mb BT package but youtube has been loading really slowly recently, too slowly even to stream stuff off it to the point where it is buffering every 5 or 10 seconds.

other video sites work fine (metacafe etc), and indeed other sites in general and I'm getting full speed with everything i do online except youtube. i thought maybe they were having bandwidth issues, but its fine at work during the day, but if i do an online ping of youtube from dnsstuff.com then i get a ping of 25-50ms and when i do it from home i get 200-400ms so something is very wrong, even tho i get sub 50ms pings in most other sites and with online games.

    has anyone else experienced this?

yes the same with perlico......it sucks the videos keep skipping

no problems here, vids loading quicker than ever.

Back to the same issue for me again on BT. :(

Didn't get a chance to try and find the cause, but will try again at the weekend.

Related I wonder??? Does Amazon.co.uk or Amazon.com load for people on BT?
It won't fully load here when it goes looking for information from certain amazon servers. I have noticed this on loads of sites recently with bt (www.tv.com for example).

Their routing seems to be FUBAR!

Youtube always worked fine for me when I was with Eircom (2mb line) I switched to BT recently to save money and now everything seems to work fine except for youtube. Painful to watch a video and I just have to wait for the video to cache (5 - 7 minutes) and then watch it. Don't really understand as I am using the same line, the same router and have the same speed connecction just differernt ISP. It isn't worth switching back to Eircom just to have youtube, but I would like to know why it isn't working!

Has this problem gone away for you guys ? .....

never had a problem up to now but tonight Youtube is desperately slow ...... constant buffering so really only way to watch a video is let it download and go back to it some minutes later .... :(
    (same for Putfile)

    I have Eircoms 2MB service ....

Hobie - have a look at the other thread I just started on this.

As for the original post here - BT may use the same access wires as eircom in most cases, but their Internet service and the IP connections they use to the Internet are different than eircom's. So the eircom and BT issues are definitely not related. I do not have any insight into how BT routes their traffic to/from the Internet.

Bebo seems to be flying for me on BT today. The best it has ever been. I wonder have BT changed anything.

    Hi,
my mother had exactly the same problem through a home hub, the problem can be rectified by changing the key security settings on the hub.

This is a trial and error process but it does work.

this thread is over 12 months old, leave it die in peace!

btw home hubs are only sold to BT UK customers :)
