I've seen a few of these going around Dublin (god help the poor guy driving!)

Was wondering if these guys need insurance, or what would happen if a passenger was injured as a result of an accident?

it says on the recruitment page that they give the drivers free insurance. Dunno what that would cover

Those taxis are free! maybe the advertising revenue covers driver costs?

There should be pedals in the back so the passengers can help out and get there quicker, for a reduction in fee :)

I understand they have public liability insurance.

They are battery assisted, which puts them into a fuzzy bracket between non-motorised (if the motor is small and won't work without pedalling) and motorised (if the motor can work indepenent of pedalling). If considered motorised, motor insurance would also be required. As they are tricycles, those parts of road legislation that apply to bicycles only don't apply. Quadrecycles have no Road Traffic Act rules at all.

    They are essentially advertising objects.

Im guessing pushbikes with the little electric motors fall into the same catagory?

I suspected there were electric motors as there was a sort of curved cover under the back axle.

Same thing essentially except for passenger(s), third wheel and PSV usage.

Some regulations refer to 'pedal cycles' rather than 'bicycles', wouldn't these regs apply?

If they're obliged to use some of Dublin's crazier (pedal) cycle tracks, I can see scope for interesting situations, legal and otherwise.
