I did an all nighter doing a classics essay so I am in fact delirious while typing this. The classics office does not open until 10 so I'll stay on boards for a while hand in the essay then go to bed.

There are none besides what you took down or what he handed out..

He gave out a list of possible essay topics a few weeks ago in one of the seminars, I don't have them handy but I'll pm you a copy when I can root them out probably in the next day or so.

There's a perfectly good library for napping in 30 seconds from Th. L. Great for some nice peace and quiet at 9am.

Brimmy, would you mind sending those essay topics to me too? Would be much appreciated...

I'm rightly fooked for History exams this semester, might as well not have been doing history at all for the amount of time I've put into it!:(

can I get them essay titles also please.

Is the layout for the 3rd reich test just answer 2 questions or what did he say?

The 2 hour test is worth 100% right?

    3rd Reich questions:

    1) Why did the Nazis become the prime beneficiary of Weimar’s political and economic crisis
    ?
    2) Who voted for Hitler and why?
    3) How ‘socialist’ was National Socialism?
    4) How much did ‘ordinary Germans’ know about the Holocaust?
    5) Was the Holocaust the inevitable result of nazi ideology or a wartime
    solution?
    6) ‘A modern masterpiece’ or ‘fascist propaganda’? Discuss these conflicting
views of Leni Riefenstahl’s Triumph of the Will
    7) Why did Nazi Germany lose the Second World War?

I'm gonna try and get a good answer ready for question (5), cos that seems (to me, an outsider!) to be a bit of a live topic in academic debate. Dr Gerwarth talked about it on the Late Late Show if I remember correctly :D

(the very very bottom of the page)

Anybody who wants to suck up to the lecturer by replicating his views on the exam, work away here - this is the interview he did on the late late!

Dave, will those titles be inclusive of whats basically on the exam material wise? And is it the usual two questions/ two hours jazz?

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 27,857 ✭✭✭✭Dave!

Dunno material-wise simon.... I presume that's just the structure of the paper and the form of the questions.

    AFAIK it's 2 essays/2 hours, yeah.

  • Registered Users Posts: 1,536 ✭✭✭Brimmy

Haha just came on to post these myself.

Simon - He said when he handed them out that there were no past papers but these 7 questions would give you a fair indicator of what kind of material to expect to come up on the exam itself if that's what you mean?

    I'll probably go with questions 2, 5, 6, 7.

5 and 6 seem the nicest to allow leeway in your argument though.

yeh thats what i meant! good to hear - feel a lot better about the whole thing now! Im off to transcribe his views on the Late Late!

Is this a new course or something? (Because of the lack of past papers)

Might take a fetter on 2,6,7 with 1 maybe as a backup. Heh, I have a few female friends who will be delighted to hear about that Late Late interview. Apparently he is quite the dream boat...

he's a bit of a weed though in fairness :) - If you want the women to be swooning after you, quit the gym and hit the library - the brains what they're really after!

Yeah it's the first yeah of the course apparently, or so he said in a seminar at one stage.

I had to sit behind a group of igrls in the one seminar just talking about how hot he was, WHILE the seminar was going on.. it was annoying to say the least.

There's two German exams on as well for the time period, one on the 6th 6-8 and the other the 10th at 9-11. Ours is the 6th right?

Aaaaand this is the point where the history thread should be closed.

This might be a bit of a long shot but does anyone have the Calvin lecture file from last semesters Renaissance? The course is removed from blackboard and I can't find my copy. Cheers in advance if anyone does.

What topics are people covering for Land, Religion, Identity module? I've done Surrender and Regrant, Sussex, and Sidney. I'm wondering if that'll be enough for the first part of the course.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 27,857 ✭✭✭✭Dave!

I've covered nothing :( Besides the plantations I guess

Gonna defo do S&R... dunno what else

  • Registered Users Posts: 1,001 ✭✭✭simonrooneyzaga

plantations and S&r seem like a good place to start alright! The history exams shouldn't be too bad for summer - im far more worried about politics!

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 1,685 ✭✭✭Tom65

Surrender & Regrant, Sussex and Sidney all seemed to run into each other, so I think that should cover me for a question. I might do the Desmond Rebellion or something just to be safe.

  • Registered Users Posts: 1,536 ✭✭✭Brimmy

    S&R and probably a plantation.

Did they give any hints in the tutorials? And they never said there's no problem repeating material from the essay in the exam did they?

My tutor said its okay cover the same question in the exam as in the essay.

I really haven't much of a clue what I'm doing in relation to revision for it. I'm going to guess S&R, St.Leger/Sussex/Sidney and then Plantations and something else from the other part of the course.
