Hey, does anyone have notes typed up for the Japanese side of the Asia&Australia course? I'd be really grateful if so! (heythanks@thankshey.com)

and...anyone know anything more about these provisional results? someone said they'd be out on the 5th. That's... so soon

Don't have Japanese notes as I specialised in the China aspect of the course. How come you need them?

Provisional results I think are out at 5 o'clock on the 5th. It is very soon and I'm starting to dread getting them now...

I applied for that Japan study thing and was just stressing a bit about my cover essay. I think it went okay though... and wow... that *is* soon... *fingers crossed*

US History marks are back for anyone who can make it out to college tomorrow (today as well but that's passed, obviously). Guess I have to wait till Friday as I started a new job today. Hopefully it's (much) better than my last one :)

Ye see Bob Gerwarth got a big research grant from the EU?

    http://www.ucd.ie/news/2009/05MAY09/290509_war.html

    <3

    It's for...

"...a ground-breaking 4-year project on the transnational history of failed demobilization and paramilitary violence from Ireland through Europe and across the wider world after the Russian revolution and the end of the Great War."

    Sounds, eh... wordy....

    Asia & Australia: A+

Not until the final results are out :p

B+ in Asia/Oz for me and a C+ in Irish Experience. Hoping the C+ goes up as although I thought it was my weakest exam I think a C for the exam was a bit harsh and only got a C+ for attendance/contribution when I only missed one class..

Would the grades tend to go up (or down:eek:)? I wouldn't have thought so although have some people experienced this?

Nice. Hope things are going well for you.

I accepted an offer to do the MA in History although I'm still not sure if I can do it as I'm waiting to find out if I'm eligible for a grant to finance it. If I don't end up doing it I think I'll do a TEFL course and go abroad. I plan to do that down the line anyway. Not working at the moment though. :D

    Doing a masters hopefully.

  • Registered Users Posts: 1,536 ✭✭✭Brimmy

Still waiting to hear back about my own masters application. Getting a bit annoyed at this stage.

If not I'm planning on doing the TEFL as well and won over 700 euro on football between Wednesday and Thursday so if all else fails I can always take up professional gambling..

    Just want to say hey-

Was in 2nd History when this thread was established.

Seems to be the nearest thing to a community centre in Arts :D

Yeah move over last year 3d years:P

Cant wait to get back into it this year, pity the core modules for this semester suck

  • Registered Users Posts: 45,594 ✭✭✭✭Mr.Nice Guy

To those doing the History Masters, what are good choices for optional modules? I like the look of the 'Medieval Dublin' one, 'Writing Irish History in Early Modern Ireland', 'War and Grand Strategy in the Modern World' and 'End of the British Empire'. Only one choice allowed though. :o

    Anyone done any of these?

So how are UCD's BA graduands doing nowadays? :) Living it up recession-styleeee???

The Davemeister still hasn't found a f*cking job and is getting sick of it :(

How's the masters goin if ye are doin one?

  • Registered Users Posts: 45,594 ✭✭✭✭Mr.Nice Guy

I'm in the Masters at the moment. We're doing a War Games thing at the minute where we have to play out the events of World War 2 in 1940 and try and do well for our groups. Don't want those Nazis to prevail.

I'd say it's very tough to get work at the minute. Then again I can't put off the big bad world for much longer myself.

You looking forward to the graduation ceremony?

  • Registered Users Posts: 1,536 ✭✭✭Brimmy

What's the story with tickets for our grad?

Doing my MA in Anglo Irish Literature. I want to play War Games :(

Well, while I wasn't in your year, I am a current 3rd year. Still haven't had one of those all-nighters though, do have 3 assignemnts for next week though:eek: Lectures/tutorials finishing up this week, have finished InterWar Europe yesterday, culture & Revolution today, and tomorrow, my last ever history taught subject under free education *tear*. Least I can go out with a smle on my face, Declan Downey is the tutor, always good fun.

  • Registered Users Posts: 1,536 ✭✭✭Brimmy

If you haven't pulled an all nighter yet you're not a real history student.

Did one last night for an English essay. Memorieeeeeeeeeeeeeeees of the corner of my miiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiind.

As you can guess I'm still quite sleep deprived.

Probably gonna end up having to do one all nighter with the 5k essay due in culture and revolution! Is proving quite the pain at the moment :(
