You don't need a credit history to get a mortgage- but you will probably pay a higher interest rate without one.

Not True. You just have to show good old fashioned money management. If you have a healthy bank account with savings etc and the normal salary requirements etc then there is not problem. In fact a credit card can be a negative if it has a balance.
