Story on the news tonight about how the grey squirrel is wiping
out the red one and damaging trees. Good news for the shooters
that like to shoot furry things bad news for grey squirrels.

There was a mention of a contraceptive being introduced which is
interesting. If it could be done and it was effective it would mean
the grey ones would not have to be killed for no other reason than
    they have become a pest.

contraceptive???? who is going to pay for that, has it ever worked anywhere in any other wild animal??? nope!
what if they forget to take it?
bullet a sensible approach would be to cull all greys asap.

Who is going to pay for a literacy program to teach the grey squirrels to use contraception?

Gray squirrel is pretty tasty baked in a pie with some nice gravy, and loads of trout and salmon flies use the fur. If anybody does start harvesting them I'd be happy to take a few off your hands:p

What a silly plan, I doubt Durex even do an extra large one suitable for squirrels.

Dont know where they get these stupid ideas when must gun clubs would be only too obliging to reduce their numbers, Great craic with a .410 id say. On the shoot i beat on if a grey is spotted every effort is made to kill it if it is safe to do so. They wreck havoc with pheasant feeders and saplings in the forestry. They can be tricky buggers to shoot when they are on the move. Seemingly they are lovely BBQ'd. Have only ever shot one grey squirrel.

If the Red Squirrel is being threatened by a virus being carried by the Grey Squirrel, then how would a solution that leaves a Grey alive to spread this virus be considered a viable option?
