    Hi Guys

I am doing a house purchase at the moment. I need to get myself a solicitor. Do i need to pop in to any aul one?

I'm on the southside city centre anyone recommend one anywhere in the area. Any idea how much this normally costs?

Do the credit union still offer this facility?

    Sorry for all the questions.

    Thanks

There was another thread recently on this, in any case I recommended moran solicitors, they're in Westland square, D2 and I found them very good - they are as cheap as I am aware of too - approx 999+VAT and outlay (minimal).
It may depend on what you are purchasing, but most conveyances are straightforward, if it's a bit more complex and there are possible problems over title it may cost more, in that event perhaps you would be better off using solicitors who you know or have been personally recommended.

Do not just pick any solicitor. they vary a lot in quality and price. The two do not necessarily go hand in hand. Dearer is not necessarily better. Personal recommendation is best.

hi all, i just got the bill from my sollicitor today which was for the purchase of a house. i used home buy home sell from my credit union. the fee was 999 plus vat at 21% and outlays which were about 250, about 500 and 200 for mortgage registry and title, 200 plus for searches and there was something else that was a couple of hundred. it came to about 2,400 euro which i suppose is average? he seemed sound and wasn't creepy. I even googled him and he came out ok. I can pm his name if anybody would like, just let me know. i don't know if they charge for phone calls and all that, to be honest, i didn't ask. i think that as it's a fixed rate, it is in their interest to get things wrapped up as soon as both parties can and not to draw matters out.

Researched one last year and the best value for money is Dermon Deane.

Good bang for your buck - think it was 1370 All in - VAT, Fees, Searches, all other bull they can charge you for..... I could not find cheaper. He was fast and no holdups.

Try to find someone who specialises in convenancing and if possible has expereince of that development. Easier for them, easier for you.

Make sure they set out what they include in 'outlay' and what they expect each heading to amount to.
