Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

    Hi,
I have the above surround system. It came without cables. I'm not sure which ones I have to get to set it up.

    Can somebody please advise?

    Thanks.

bog standard speaker cable I suppose - as always I'd recommend a minimum of 79 strand cable.
I presume they have the usual binding posts as terminals?

    Binding posts yes.

There an expensive set so I thought some high grade cable would make a diffence.

Is speaker cable expensive? I might try Mapins this evening.

    Thanks for the quick reply.

well you can use Nordost flatline cable if you want (their basic speaker cable) but I think 79 strand suits cinema better. Maplins sell 79 strand by the reel.

And do I need any special connections to go into the binding post?

If not I suppose all I need is something to pear the wire, is that correct?

yep, wire strippers are useful! If you do go for the stranded stuff then twist it so there's no stray strands... just wrap it around the post and tighten the clamp or, if there's a hole in the post, push the wire through that and tighten. Just ensure left doesn't touch right as that causes the speaker to short out.

I got the cable. I'm not sure what to do now. I thought the woofer was an amp for the speakers. Do I need a special amp and how to I connect it to the telly?

Heres some pics of the back of the speaker, back of the tv and back of the woofer...

I'm afraid you do need an AV amp.

two things.... you'll need to tell the AV amp there's no centre speaker so it will divide the duties between the two fronts and ignore the speaker terminals on the sub and just run a decent phono cable (standard RCA plugs) from the sub-out on the amp to the sub.

Can you recommend an amp for this? Or what models/types should I be looking at?

Have a look at http://www.richersounds.ie/asp/categorydetail.asp?ObjectID=938&Mode=0&CategoryID=3&SUB=24 they have a fair range of amps there... something midrange should be fine. Personally I like Marantz and Pioneer but they're all pretty similar really.

Cheers. I wonder if this one would have everything I need.

Did you buy just the speakers alone ? , I am very happy with my Denon amp if your are going for sorrounds.

Just have the speakers. There expensive ones though. I would be concious that maybe a mediocre amp might not do them justice.
