Yeah! Have one downstairs, and im doing swimming. I have physio thursday too so hopefully the pain wont be as bad! I cant walk straight at the minute ;(
Thanks again xx hope the last few weeks arent dragging for you !!

Sounds like you're on top of things! I found going swimming great. Took loads of pressure off the joints in my legs too.

Last few weeks are dragging but hopefully I'll go soon. I feel like something might be brewing but that might be wishful thinking! You'll be in the same position before long :)

    hi all

had a nurse check up today. ill be 17 weeks tomorrow. apparently all was good. I got to hear the heartbeat which was great.:D

however when doc was finding the heartbeat he found it down really low instead of up closer to the belly button where he said it should be about now. he said i was therefore measuring more like 14 weeks but i had an early scan so i am certain my dates are right. he then said cos im tall i could be carrying low. i think i carried my first one low too. i think thisa little one is too big to be down there and thats why im getting the pains too! i duno!!!

anyone had anything similar? anyone any ideas how i can get baby to move up a bit? or could it be that it occasionally moves up and down? i just hope the little monkey is growing ok.

I've got my booking appointment coming up in Holles St, I'll be 14 weeks. I've seen a few people mention "mini-scans" that you get at the booking appointment - what's the difference between a mini-scan and a regular scan, and do you always get one at the Holles St booking appointments? And if not, will they at least check the heartbeat?

    Thanks!

Mini scans are just to check the heartbeat, check the size of the baby (to help date the pregnancy) and to check how many little ones you are carrying. The regular scan is done at 20-24 weeks to check everything is okay and to check placental location and the like.

It literally is just a very quick scan - at my two appts so far, the doc stuck the transducer on my belly for literally ten seconds and said, "yep, looks fine, come back in x amount of weeks" I'm on my way in to an appointment now, I'm hoping I get a nice doc who won't be as quick!! You don't get a picture unfortunately, but have your phone out and take a snap of the screen!

I got pics at my 14 week scan, not at my other small check ups though. That was at the Rotunda so every place is different. One thing I will say, never let them rush you, if you have questions ask them, even if they are trying to push you out the door, you may annoy them, but they are there to help and as I like to remind myself, they chose the career, screw them if they are inconvenienced by it all!!! :D

In holles st they have small portable scanning machines in the rooms that they use to check heartbeat, fluid etc.
The pic isn't super clear and they do it quickly but you can get a look at baby

The 20 week scan is in a proper scanning room with a trained sonography e and is very detailed, checking for anomalies

Any opinions on when's the best time to get a 3d scan?

Also would appreciate any recommendations for where to get it done (in Dublin.)

    Thanks!

I went to ultrasound dimensions in blackrock last week - they were very nice, vy courteous and friendly. I came out with a 25 min DVD, 6 photos and about 45 photos on a cd for printing. All cost €195. Would definitely recommend them. I was 28w+5d - I think they recommend you are between 24-32 weeks or thereabouts, but the info is on their website.

Also used ultrasound dimensions. But it was Dec 2011 when i was there. Got about 4 or 5 pics and a 5 min dvd . It cost about 150 at the time. I think i was around 22 weeks.
My LO was fast asleep for most of it so not much movement until near the end. Probably why i had less pics and time on dvd.
I will definetly use them again this time.

Got the 3D scan done at 25 weeks but my lack of patience wouldn`t let me wait any longer to find out the sex then too!! If i was more patient closer to 30weeks would have been better for getting to see the features clearer..
    :)
Does anyone know if I can refuse visitors if im in hospital for a c-section?
I`d like this time if i do have a c-section to be about bonding/breastfeeding/sleeping til i get home and try to run things on my own (separated from hubby recently)
Or would the midwives/nurses let everyone in no matter what?

  • Moderators, Arts Moderators Posts: 17,231 Mod ✭✭✭✭Das Kitty

Yeah you can state no visitors.

You can press the call button if anyone manages to get in who you don't want to see and ask them to be escorted out.

Best not tell anyone when you're going in. Should cut out the messers.

Is there anywhere you can order pregnancy vitamins online that might be cheaper than buying them in the shops? Or where do most people buy them? They're so fecking expensive!

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 23,862 ✭✭✭✭January

I just buy my folic acid and iron from Tesco, it's a hell of a lot cheaper and the iron is around the same dose as Galfer. I used the prenatal vitamins on my first but just stuck to folic acid before 12 weeks and iron after on the others.

Hop in the car and up the M1?
Also- Gaviscon is free for pregnant women on the NHS- and they are more than happy to take your own GP's prescription.

Note- don't bother going grocery shopping- its not worth the hassle- and the prices here are actually better in many instances (a pleasant change).

I used to stock up when boots had 3 for 2 or when holland and Barrett have their buy one but another for 1c promotion

  • Moderators, Education Moderators, Society & Culture Moderators Posts: 18,953 Mod ✭✭✭✭Moonbeam

Have a look in Boots the price varies hugely,I think it is the seven seas ones(purple box) are about 7 euro a box and Boots often has 3 for 2 on them.

I've two questions about combined care!

Firstly, is it normal that there seems to be zero communication between my GP and my hospital? E.g. my blood pressure was very high at my hospital appointment earlier this week (150 over 100) ... as far as I know, my GP won't know about this at my next appointment, so it'll be up to me to tell her. Which is fine, but I could see it becoming an issue if, for example, a patient had poor English etc ....

Secondly, because of the high blood pressure, the hospital consultant has told me to go for weekly appointments from now (alternating between GP and hospital.) My understanding was that only a certain amount of GP appointments were covered under combined care ... so does this mean that I'm going to have to start paying for GP appointments?

    Thanks!

On the first point I have a combined care card where gp fills in details when im with him (bp, weight, etc) then I bring it with me, Then give it to hospital on my next visit to them and they do the same.
Done this with my last pregnancy and also with this one even though I have changed gp since.

Can help on the second point as I have no idea,

Think the paying for extra visits are at the discretion of your gp. I had several extra in the last few weeks of pregnancy but wasn't charged but read somewhere on here about a woman who was charged.

The discretionary visits were cut back- but you can still pay for them.

hi im just wondering can anyone help me.. Its been 8 weeks and 4 days since i had a period, yet i took a pregnancy test last week and it was negative. I really thought i had it this time couldnt believe it was negative. And then today im just looking at like symptoms that you could possible have around this time at pregnancy and the most frequent thing is sore breast and my breast are killing me right now they feel hard and heavy and really sensitive it was so uncomfortable in bed last night with them because i sleep on my stomach.. Has anybody experienced something like this could i still be pregnant and its just not showing up i must be at least 3-4 weeks late.. please shed some light for me. Im 21 and its my first baby

  • Moderators, Society & Culture Moderators Posts: 32,285 Mod ✭✭✭✭The_Conductor

False negatives are not unusual. False positives, are. If you go to your GP they can do a blood test and confirm.

  • Registered Users Posts: 2 Lu_91

and if its negative again.. why am i so late.. can u just skip a period?

It's unusual but yes, sometimes you can just skip a period.
