    hi Das Kitty,

hope physio can help your back problem.

I only started my shopping, i am due around x'mas. I have same questions about disposable knickers. where can you get them?

  • Moderators, Arts Moderators Posts: 17,231 Mod ✭✭✭✭Das Kitty

Chemists and Mothercare from what I can see so far.

  • Registered Users Posts: 161 ✭✭beachbabe

A friend of mine who had a baby recently said disposable knickers are useless. She advised me to buy cheap pants in dunnes or pennys and just use them.

Believe me disposables are horrible... buy a couple of packs of big horrible granny knickers in penneys and wear those. Especially comfy if you have a c section as they come up over your scar!! I swore by those when I was in hospital.

I have granny knicks and disposables, don't know the puspose of the disposables really. If it's for modesty I'm really not interested, would prefer to be bare! I hate the feeling of them. Got them anyway as it'd be like me to leave out something essential thinking it wasn't. :p

Uuugghh disposable's are awful! I cried after my dd's birth because i couldnt get the disposable's up over my thigh's :p i was swollen and bloated and i couldn't lift my leg's! So yeah penney's granny knicker's all the way :D

Shane is quite ill so baby will have to take a back seat for a while...hope that the stress has not killed baby, am very worried about him...I cant see this pregnancy lasting as I was/am incredibly upset over Shane...thinking of signing off this thread as I know that baby will not survive this. Sorry, am really upset over Shane, he was refusing to go to the hospital, I had to force him, he has a blood clot and an infection in his leg...the thing is I need him at night as I tend to have bad low blood sugars at night, without him at home I could die or baby could die if I do not keep my bloods low enough...not a nice decision.

Do not give up hope yet. We're all praying for you and keeping you in our thoughts. Praying for Shane also.

Oh Hun, you'd be amazed at how resiliant baby is after the first 12 weeks (even before). He / she will be fine while you concentrate on Shane. Hope he gets sorted out soon. Is there anyone who could take over your blood sugar checks while he's in the hospital? If not could you speak to your specialist about options? Are you a candidate for an insulin pump?

Fingers crossed I don't end up in hospital- though its looking likely. I've blood clots in one leg, and a seriously infected ankle, I don't see any reason I can't try to persuade them to allow me stay at home and get my GP to administer Dynahep and take the antibiotics myself......

Please reassure Cathy about how resillient baby is- I keep telling her, but she really doesn't believe me. I'm relieved that she has a scan due on Friday morning- at least she'll be able to see our little one then- going a couple of weeks without a scan is very tough on her (our baby must be one of the most scanned babies in history). There is no reason whatsoever to believe anything is wrong with our little one, and I hope Cathy believes this.

Hopefully you don't have to go to hospital Shane. Scan on Friday should reassure her loads. How far along is she now?

    Just over 14 weeks.
We both so want this little one.

I'm so sorry you're going through this Cathy and Shane :( They are incredibly resilient little things and bubba will be fine but you two need to look after yourselves. Is there anyone else to stay with you Cathy if Shane needs to go to hospital?
Seriously..... I know some kids who probably had the worst possible in utero journey and they're just fine! Look after yourselves and baby will be fine.

Thanks everyone - he has cellulitis, it has the same symptoms (and is potentially fatal if not treated)...we are relieved. I am sorry that I ranted so much - am finding the diabetes hard in pregnancy, I have to test several times a night to make sure that it is not too low or high and it is tiring both of us (my diabetes is not stable). It gets tiring and yesterday was the final straw. Is our 12 year anniversay if our first date next month but this weekend is a big deal as the holiday was when we were first formally introduced (we met 2 years before)...I wanted it to be a good weekend. At least I have him home.

Ack cellulitis is a sore dose! Lots of leg rest for Shane.

God, Shane and Cathy you are really going through the mill. I hope you will get better quickly Shane. I'm so sorry to hear that you have to cope with this illness on top of everything else. Cellulitis is a horrible dose.

Cathy, I understand you must be overwhelmed and going through hell but try to listen to Shane and take heart .My cousins wife has serious diabetes and was ill from early on in her pregnancy. She had IVF and was desperate for a baby so was awfully disappointed to be so ill. She was confined to bed at home for some weeks with complications and then in hospital for quite a few months as her diabetes could not be controlled. She was terribly stressed out too but she came out the other end fine and her baby is the happiest, healthiest, bouncing bundle of contentment you could imagine. He is just gorgeous. She regularly comments that she can't believe he is so calm and of such a happy, placid disposition as she was so sick and up the wall with worry during the pregnancy. She says he was the product of being "stewed in complete terror"- her words! Now I'm not recommending stewing babies in terror but just letting you know there's lots and lots of hope so stay strong for your little one.He/she needs you. Incidentally my cousins wife is pregnant for the second time now and she's having a much much easier time.At 7 months she's just giving up work and is still up and about and well.
Good luck to you both. I hope you both have some breaks and an easy time for the rest of the pregnancy.

Hey Hiltonhater, I was new to this thread last year (I had a boy in Feb) Welcome and ask any questions you like or make comments about the pregnancy here, we all are more than willing to help and maybe there are people that have some of the answers here (I dunno how I would have coped without being able to unload to people here)

As for Cathy and Shane, I feel really bad for asking now:(:( I am so sorry and am thinking of all three of you. Cathy your baby has gotten this far, it is strong and wants to survive, look after yourself and try not to worry (easier said than done!) but remember all our thoughts are with ye! And get well soon Shane!

Well Shane has been ordered to take it easy for a while so it is not all bad - you were not to know! We see baby on Friday in any case so I should be happier then...the thing is that I had been focusing on baby, we both have...

Am a bit annoyed - we met 2 of his lovely sisters but one of them had a bad cough and she was coughing all over me (she had swine flu a few months so at least it is not that) but I have been avoiding people with coughs (even my brothers lovely partner), they should have told us. I know that I am being paranoid. The thing is that I adore my SIL but we are just being so careful. Sorry for the rant - am so protective over the bump, it is scary...we can feel it moving at this stage so that is something, I just hope that it is OK...

You are completely right to be protective, if someone looks like they even have the sniffles I go into psycho mode if they so much as look at Aidan!!!!! Are you considering getting yourself the vaccine???

To say there is movement then that is a great sign!!!!

I get scared - I get really bad colds/flu - she should not have met me. Yes, I will be getting the swine flu jab as soon as I can, as will Shane...it is tough waiting. At the begining of pregnancy I had to take anibiotics (that are pregnancy safe, I also had to have local annestheic - root canal) but I got a severe allergic reaction, so I am scared if I have to take them again.

God pregnancies, health problems and root canals, you must be fit to kill!!!!

I refused to take anything when pregnant other than lemsip (had a terrible flu and chest infection last winter) I suffered for a fortnight with the chest infection and the doctors could not get me to take anything. All I could think of is I could get a reaction!!!! Glad you are getting the vaccine, I rather a few days of headaches than losing a baby! The prevention is far better than the virus!

Keep yourself safe, I am delighted little one is telling you its okay:):):)
