Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

Speed ramps

DCC have stopped putting in full width speed ramps and replaced some of them with the much more bus friendly speed cushions. The downside is that no-one is doing anything about people parking either side of the ramp, forcing the bus to hit all the cushions or move into the middle of the road.

TfL recommend enforcing 5m no parking zones on either side but obviously it's too much to hope for that in Ireland (unless TfL come over and enforce it ;)) so is there anything else that can be done?

The trick is to fit something like a footpath projection or a cyclist bypass.

    Where was this fitted?

    Have you made a complaint?

Probably somewhere on the Coolock end of the 27B route but I can't remember, it's something I notice from time to time but that area (Kilmore West) is pretty awful for bus movements in general, everything that the TfL manual for road design says to avoid is in there.

I'll find it tomorrow and mail DCC but my faith in them doing something for DB in a housing estate and for one route is pretty weak.

    If you get pics, share.

On Kenilworth Square there is a bus stop on a speed ramp.

Bulldoze the ramps or cushions away and replace them with flat tarmac. If there are problems with excessive speed, enforce the limits with back-window-of-car mobile cameras. If the limits themselves are too high, lower them and repeat until problem solved.

I've never understood why all of our suspensions must suffer just because of speeding drivers or bad speed limits.

The annoying thing is that is only a tiny minority that drive at excessive speed on these roads.

Has there been a joyriding problem in the area?

I was on Whitworth Road (Drumcondra - Phibsborough) the other day. The cushions are quite close to the kerb (no parking) meaning the buses go even clsoed to the kerb. So much so that either a bus or truck has removed parts of the traffic lights at the pedestrian crossing half way along.
