    Well Sam,

I'm a fan of cabbage - brilliant thing it is.

I got a friend who I recommend it to.
He's on a contract with Meteor - if he down loads it to his laptop, does meteor do free webtexts?
Also, whats the latest and best version of cabbage to download and from where?

    Thanks,

    MM

Yeah Meteor does 300 web texts a month, just to Irish numbers though, no international.

You can get the latest version here: http://cabbagetexter.com/cabbagedesktopdownload.php

Hi Sam. Have been using V1.77 on my 5800 the last few weeks, no real issues, but noticed tonight the Recent Numbers list seems to stay around 10 names, and looking at it now, there are 9..? Before that list would extend as long as I text'd new contacts.

There's a bug with the record stores that I haven't got around to looking at yet. I'm going to redo it from scratch because it keeps mucking up for people

Ah good stuff Sam, appreciate that :)

    Hi Sam,

I just upgraded from 1.96.8 to 1.97 and found that the new version behave the same way when you try to position it on your desktop (and use the option to stick it).
I use the small UI option and Win7 ....

    Thanks for a brilliant applet,
    Stone

Hi, can you try this version: http://cabbagetexter.com/Cabbage_Setup_1.97.2.exe

You're talking about how it doesn't fit to the right of the screen right?

Hey, I love the apps and use the desktop and android versions. Just wondering have you updated the sending scripts for Meteor since they increased the message length to 480 characters?

I assume the web script handles splitting up the messages instead of each application?

    Cheers

Hi, yeah the scripts have been updated. The desktop version handles the splitting itself, it either makes multiple requests to the web script or to the network website directly depending on your settings. The mobile versions make a single request to the web script and it handles splitting the messages

    Lovely stuff, Cheers!

    Edit:
Just noticed that with the desktop app it says you're using multiple messages as you're writing it, but it'll only use a single webtext. Just keep it within 3 messages. :D

Hi, I finally got around to fixing the record stores. I redid the storage mechanism from the ground up, I made it more reliable and made the program much less likely to crash if something does go wrong.

When you open the new version for the first time you'll be given the option to save your old data to the new format (press yes) or start fresh (press no). Saving it only takes a few seconds but if you think something might be corrupted it might be better to say no.

Other than that there are two other small changes

    1) If you type a message and then press OK it's automatically saved. If you've pressed OK on a message but it was never sent, either because you closed the program or something went wrong with the sending process, it'll automatically be there when you open the program again. Messages that are successfully sent aren't automatically put back but there's still the "restore last sent" option that allows you to put it back manually.

    2) On Sony Ericssons after a while the program sometimes starts to give a "could not connect to server" error message even though the message sent. That's because some kind of exception is being thrown. I don't know what the exception is but I've set it so that instead of giving that error it'll print a load of information about the exception that hopefully someone will post here or email to me so I can find the problem.

You can download the new one directly to your phone with this link: http://cabbagetexter.com/dl1.8

or through your pc with these files:
    http://cabbagetexter.com/mobile/Cabbage_Mobile_1.8.jar
    http://cabbagetexter.com/mobile/Cabbage_Mobile_1.8.jad

Let me know how you get on with it, thanks

Fair play to you Sam :)

NB. Is showing as Version 1.08 during install.

Sorry to butt in, but this new site might useful to some:

    http://www.o2text.com

Same idea as Cabbage, except it's online rather than a standalone application. It's very quick and robust, and looks good on a phone too. At the moment it's only O2.

I initially created it for myself (as a standalone Swing app), then for a few friends, then I decided to convert it to a webapp and post online...

The advantage is that you totally bypass o2.ie (I really hate o2.ie)...I've found it really useful anyway.

    Thanks very much :)

Now that you mentioned it I updated the recent numbers too. It holds 20 at a time now iirc.

Thats brilliant, thanks. I'll download it as soon as I can and let you know how it goes. Hopefully the Sony Ericsson problem won't occur again.

    Hi Sam!

I used 1.74 on Nokia N97 and Vodafone for quite some time and it worked brilliantly, but at some point last week it stopped working. I then upgraded to 1.76 (which was the newest version on the website) and that made it worse.

After finding this thread I upgraded to 1.80 and have the same problem again as with 1.74: When trying to send a SMS, Cabbage stops at "Sending to xxxx using account zzzzzz". It never returns with a FAIL or SUCCESS message, but just waits there. Both "Exit" and "Back" work, but no message is being sent.

Any idea what it could be?

    Thanks!!!

can you try version 1.8 from http://cabbagetexter.com/dl1.8

But uninstall your current version first. if there's a problem it's likely that it's being carried on through versions

Did that (thanks for the quick reply!!), but unfortunately the problem is worse now:

After typing in the Destination Number, I select SEND and then Cabbage does NOTHING. No more message "Sending to ......"

(And the uninstall/re-install seemed to have erased my extensive Cabbage Contact list as well. :-( )

I just spotted a bug that I've fixed. Can you try this one:

Sorry I should have said that. The reason for asking you to uninstall was because something had become corrupted in the record stores and the only way to get rid of the problem was to reset the stores

This new problem is happening because of there being no recent numbers stored but I've fixed that now

Sam, progress, but no success yet! ;-)

After upgrading to 1.81 I now arrive at "Sending to xxxx using account zzzzzz" before Cabbage stops. So a step further, but nothing happens after it claims to send.

(By the way: This is now the exact behaviour that 1.74 showed at some point last week. It worked perfectly before and then did exactly what 1.81 now does.)

Reply is 504. So my account is fine and as I said 1.74 showed the same behaviour at some point last week.

Can you press options->accounts->options->enable debug (and confirm it) and then try to send a message. Just before sending it will pop up a URL. Could you pm me the exact text of it?

It will contain your password so you can cut that bit out but make sure it's as it should be

And what happens when you press options->Check for updates

I have been trying to write a PHP script that uses the Meteor web texts however I was unable to get it working. I came across the Cabbage program after searching through Google for an answer. I downloaded the Cabbage sending scripts source code to see where I was going wrong but it seemed to be pretty much the same.

I uploaded the Cabbage scripts to my hosting account, changed the url.php file and created the cookiebank directory but this won't let me send texts either. I have checked that curl is enabled and PHP is not in safe mode.

I can login to the Meteor site, logout and check how many texts I have left but I just cant send them.

My hosting is provided by Register365 and the Cabbage Meteor sending script returns -5.

    Anybody any ideas?
    Thanks a lot.
