    Hi Sam,

If I do the below (as per this webpage http://www.peoplesrepublicofcork.com/forums/showthread.php?t=88452&page=2 ) will it effect my settings or anything i.e. do you recommend it?

    Thanks

"Call up Meteor and ask them to enable the ISP GPRS access point (has to be the isp one), tell them you want to hook up your laptop to your phone to surf the net.
plain GPRS costs 2c a text, but ISP GPRS costs 1c"

no you don't need to do that. meteor have a different access point called isp.mymeteor.ie that you need get activated by calling customer care but since that post was made they've set up a new access point, data.mymeteor.ie which is exactly the same but is already activated so you don't need to call

I have been using the app successfully for some time on O2. Recently after sending, the usual confirmation with remaining txts flashes up, but is followed immediately by the message "Message Sending Failed", although the txt is sent as normal. This is happening on a Nokia 6233 with version 1.4.24 of GPRSMS. Another Nokia 6233 with version 1.3.94 of GPRSMS works as normal with no error messages.

Any idea what is causing this?

i don't know anything about gprsms tbh, the program i made is called Cabbage

but i just tried it there and it worked so it might have been a temorary problem. the o2 website is crap and sometimes does the same thing with my program. you might have more luck asking on the grpsms website, www.gprsms.net

You might be with o2? I was wondering the same when I started using it, you can send about 10 for a cent :D

Cormie, i've finally done something you've been asking for for ages, a CSV importer. Currently it's a stand-alone program because i don't have access to the Cabbage code at the moment but I'll be integrating the two over the next few days.

it lets you select different headings for each contact so say if you have half of your contacts' numbers stored under 'Business phone' and half under 'Mobile phone', you can over-ride the default behaviour (which selects Mobile phone) for all contacts, or for individual ones

Currently it creates a temp file in the Cabbage data folder and from there you can use the normal import option in cabbage to bring them into your contacts. when i integrate them, you won't have to do this step

you can try it out here:
edit:found a bug with creating the output file. i'll put the link back when i fix it

let me know about any bugs you find

hey, that's cool thanks a mill. Had a quick go of it and it seems to be cool, only thing is though that it gets rid of the + in front of the number. Is there a good reason for this as if it's still ok with the + in front that would be great just to keep all the numbers the same in all places :)

there was no particular reason to take it out but it's not necessary for the o2 website so i just set it to erase all non-numeric characters. i've set it to leave the + in now and i'll upload it integrated with Cabbage at some point today or tomorrow.

i've also spent the past wek making it so the program doesn't freeze your desktop. it was an awful lot more difficult than i thought it'd be :D

    haha :o

    That's cool anyway, thanks a mill :)

Anyone noticed that it costs between 2c and 6c since this morning, to send a standard-sized text on meteor (new charging system as per website). Minimum charge is 2c which I can understand, but why charged more than this for small text. It has something to do with the fact that its taking longer for my message to send yeah?

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 4,234 ✭✭✭Fresh Pots

nothing to do with how long it takes, its just them charging you more to send the same amount of data. ba**ards!

What settings are you using? the Isp setting?

Sam set him up on data cause it meant there were no calls to cc.

Cavan man, we are all a bit pissed off with meteor at the moment so join the club

Yeah as per the above thread, settings that Sam gave me. But here it says 2c per Kb

    http://www.meteor.ie/mobileinternet/payg_pricing/

Also this is my call history, you can see down the bottom a link between the time and the cost? The time is not representative of the size of the messages, I am certain, checked balance before and after all messages. If its 2c per Kb, how is a text costing more than 2c, should I call them, whats a good reason to say I'm querying (obviously I'm not going to mention texts)

Ah right, just checking he was using the right settings. they may have doubled the price of our texts but i don't think its gonna stop us using cabbage etc. Still 2c text isn't that bad.

They have increased the cost of their data fourfold.

Used to be 0.5c per kb. It is now 2c per kb.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 17 cavanman.

I don't understand how it can be more than 2c for one text, just curious. A standard text (less than 160) cant be more than 1 kb or can it?

I always forget that, i keep thinking it was 1c per kb! that means we may be as well off to buy the 5c text bundles. if its going to charge us about that using cabbage. :(

the way meteor shows the cost of data is very confusing but the above is right.

the way you calculate how much data was used is:

the seconds column represents Kb, so the above are all 2kb, 3kb or 4kb

    the minutes column represents kb*60

    the hours column represents kb*3600

    so 04:05:06 would be

    6 + (5*60) + (4*3600) = 14706kb

and at 2c per kb that'd be €294.12

it looks like they've increased the price of the data apn from 0.5c to 2c :(

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 4,234 ✭✭✭Fresh Pots

probably a stupid question but that was using the data apn, has anyone tries the isp apn, probably the same but maybe they haven't increased the price on that.
