Is there any comedian that's univerally liked? Irish or otherwise.

I'd say Billy Connolly would be closest. There are a few who don't like him but percentage wise I'd say he is the most liked of all.

Of the Irish "comedians" I've seen, Maeve Higgins has consistently died on her arse all 3 times I've seen her live (as a support act I should add). Brutal. I dunno if Cork humour doesnt cross over to NI but she's been so bad people have felt sorry for her.

Tommy Tiernan seems to be progressively disappearing loudly up his own arse of late, which is a shame.

Billy Connolly last had original material around 1990. If he releases another DVD where the centrepeice is his prostate exam I'll cry.

Really quite like Neil Delamere and Dara O'Briain - both very entertaining.

PJ Gallagher and Jason Byrne are both woeful - an embarassment to our nation.
Chris Rock - his voice goes through my head I can't even make out what he's saying.

Ed Byrne seems to be universally hated but I've always thought he was really good.

Mairead Farrell - I know she's not officially a comedian but she has got a full time slot on the panel.I used to like her on today fm but think she is a bit outspoken now,talking to try and be funny.Andrew maxwell has seriously rubbed off her from the panel show

I have never laughed at Gervais and I don't think I ever will. To be fair I gave him a chance by watching some of his stuff which my friend gave to me, totally rubbish. Rather watch paint dry.Totally agree with you about Jarlath Regan.

ricky gervais is seen more as a writer and actor than a comedian. hence the popularity and praise for the office and extras. and also the mediocre reception for animals and politics.
dylan moran on the other hand is quality as a stand up. not bad on tv either. black books being one of the funniest shows of recent years

the "comedians" i despise most are harry hill and lee evans, i wish they would just die. also i hate jo brand, all she does is slag herself for being fat. not funny! how about leaving your comfort zone, lose a few pounds and gain some new material!

comedians that have been mentioned that i disagree with are peter kay, dylan moran, dara o briain, andrew maxwell, jack dee, des bishop, and tommy tiernan, although i can understand how tommy tiernan might get on peoples nerves cos i can only take so much of him myself.
