:eek:I met a guy today who is, just like me big into his shooting and he rambling down the town with a big white bandage on his hand. After a bit of banter I asked him what happened?

While out foxing the other night he went to retrieve a fox which he had just shot and as he described it went down like a "sack of spudz", just as he went to grab it by the scruff of the neck it snapped at him biting him on the hand, before giving up the ghost.

Is this a first, do we have similiar tales.

Always give them a tap with your boot to make sure they're goners.

Having shot many foxes over the years I too am very hesitant before rushing in to pick one up - too often have I seen one spring to life when lifted.

The safest method I find is to touch the eye with a stick - no eye movement = dead!

Have seen them come back to life when the dogs go at them. We cut the tails so I'll always put a foot on his neck to hold his head down while I cut it... just in case.

saw it happen one, he got a very nasty bite while picking up the fox.

Same goes for deer, I always give them a prod in the eye to make sure.
