Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

Smackdown And ECW To Combine?

There's an article on WWE.com here which suggests that SD guys will be showing up on ECW and ECW guys will be showing up on SD in the future

I'm not really sure what this will accomplish. I suppose it could get more people watching ECW, but I'd have thought that ECW is the show with the least worries for WWE when it comes to ratings. Maybe it's just an attempt to create fresh angles and matches, but it's watering down their "brand-split" even further
CM Punk's mystery tag partner on ECW tonight has been reported to be Kane by Figure 4 Online

I for one am against it, I think ECW is doing ok at the moment. It should be left alone. SmackDown! isn't too bad either. But combining the two is only gonna undo a lot of the good work they have done with ECW as of late.

Sci Fi network doesn't agree according to Bryan Alvarez on figure four boards. There's a danger of the ECW show not being extended when its contract is up.

Bare in mind the show started in the mid to low 2's. And even then Sci-Fi were skeptical about it. It's now in the low 1's.

Personally, I'm not against it. Neither show has set my world a light for about a year now. If it makes for better tv, I'm all for it.

EDIT: Official news update from www.figurefouronline.com :
We'll have more in tonight's new issue of Figure Four Weekly, but the Sci-Fi Network has not committed to re-signing a new TV deal, which expires at the end of 2007, and therefore Vince McMahon has made the directive that ECW needs to be made more appealing to the network. An article about WWE's storyline reasons for the merge is here. As noted elsewhere, it's expected that Kane will be CM Punk's mystery partner in a handicap match tonight against all three of Punk's potential Cyber Sunday opponents.

Since I don't wanna make a thread about this on it own (at least until it is confirmed) and we are kind of talking about ratings in this thread. It is rumored that last night's RAW drew a 5.6 rating. If this is not a mistake (I'm almost sure it has to be), I hope Vince takes note as to how RAW can draw without John Cena as champ!
Sorry for going off topic, Foz!

Heh excuse me while i bow the **** down.
As for SD & ECW is concerned, let em merge. They're both absolute rot with little or no interest to me atm so maybe with both brands being able to merge, there'll probs be better matches.

Actually Kill ECW and bring back Velocity! Velocity actually had good matches before it was taken over.

Am I the only one who thinks this may just lead up to a Smackdown vs. ECW survivor Series match, hopefully with Y2J leading the Smackdown team and Morrison leading the ECW team. That's be a great feud.

Also, it's probably to allow ECWers to compete in a tag division (AKA Bid daddy V and Striker) and to give the US title more depth like Burke

I would be shocked if that's true. I'd be surprised if it did anything above 3.3

bull**** that raw drew 5.6, from an 2.8 to a 5.6 in one week? yeah right, im all for ecw folding, they shouldnt be calling it ecw anyway as its nothing like the original

Vince owns the name, he can call it whatever the hell he wants. Anyone who thought that a WWE produced ECW would be anything like the original had rocks in their head!

the first 2 one night stand ppvs and the punk/morrison matches are the only good thing to come out of the new ecw, at least when the originals were around and they had extreme rules matches it had some sort of resemblence to the original, all the ecw title matches should be extreme rules imo

Well ... ECW haven't exactly had much in the name of main event talent since. John Morrisson and CM punk don't really cut it.

Maybe they can do a mini invasion style angle ..... a good one this time.

Join the two brands together, then re-title the ecw title as a new hardcore title.

Does "Extreme Rules" mean that they didn't get paid?
Extreme rules my ass, they were hardcore matches!

    does anyone here watch ecw??

i only catch it from time to time but punk and morrison are fine wrestlers and BDV plays the part of the monster heel very well. Burke i like alot and kelly kelly's only competition in the WWE (eye candy wise) is Maria.

ECW only get 38 minutes of tv time a week and they only have a roster of about 10 wrestlers so its a bit unfair to criticize, WWE ecw was never going to be like old ecw but in the last 4-6 months it has at least become watchable again.

When Morrisson was champ I was watching every week. I really liked it for a while and was probably watch it more than Smackdown (although that's probably due to Vickie Guerrero) It's also got the Miz,Punk and Burke so it's very watchable
