    Hey Guys,

A friend of mine has a CLK230 and she has had some major problems with it recently, the last one being that the Kompresser has died. Apparently the part of very expensive and she might have to send it back to Mercedes for repair, it might cost up to €2,000.

I suggested she should check to see if any of the breakers yards might have one she could buy a lot cheaper. It's a pain in the ass to call loads of them, but someone told me there is a service where you give details of what you want to a company and they go and find you one.

Anyone know anything about this? Or can you advise how best to go about finding a part like this?

    Thanks

I think the kompressor (supercharger) needs to be rebuilt periodically, like every 50k or something like that. I know some do but I don't know about kompressors.

Assuming I'm right (which I may not be) and €2k would be for a rebuild from a main dealer (which sounds stiff even for them), she's better off going to a good independant mercedes specialist anyway.

Maybe the reason for the high price is damage related to not rebuilding on time? In which case, a scrapper could do but you're probably still better off rebuilding it to be 100% sure again but this is my guess, there should be some folk along soon who will probably know for sure.:)

The first thing I would wonder about is if it actually needs a kompressor at all. I have only ever seen one faulty.

If you google you will find loads of breakers in the UK. Golden pages online would give you loads of irish contacts.

I have never ever heard of a Merc Kompressor failing either !

I have owned several of these cars too !

I would get a second opinion, but if you DO need one try www.247spares.co.uk, or Traynors in Armagh.

    Good luck !

ive seen many a clk fail... mainly because the brakes should be switched to after markets a.s.a.p because i seen a friend nearly killed cause her brakes failed ( though he soft top edition was serviced every 10k miles )

as for the kompressor... shouldn't fail before 50k miles, after that you cant be sure... check around the big breaks in N.I for cheap parts and get a merc garage to do the work... getting your own parts can be cheaper , just make sure there right :)

Can you go a bit deeper? What part of the brakes should be upgraded and what was found to be the cause of your friends car failing?
I've never heard of this, I've never heard of many a CLK having brake failures, never mind seeing it, or knowing the drivers.

Cheers guys. I'm not sure of the technicalities of the problem, but i know she has been absolutely plagued with problems with the car recently, electrical etc, and has spent approx 4k on problems already.

I'll try the two mentioned, but can anyone else recommend other websites or yards etc that would be worth trying to find this part?
    Thanks

    .........total cr4p !

Merc brakes are probably the most durable that exist. I think you have been reading to much bullshlt on the net or the cars owner has !

I am directly involved with Mercedes dealers, and communicate with hundreds of owners throughout the year and I've never heard of brakes failing on ANY model, nor a Supercharger either !

To the OP I would strongly suggest you avoid the main Merc dealers, they haven't a clue, and get to and independent specialist who will diagnose the problem AND repair it much quicker and more cost effectively !

Where abouts is this car owner based, let me know and I will put you in touch with someone !
