reference question

Probably an unusual one: I am using two sources which have the same authors and year. The references in the document are in the format (Smith et all, 2007) etc. So references to the two sources are not distinguishable. Is there a standard way of indicating which one is being referred to?

I am currently sorting out my references (and wasting time on boards.ie) so here's what the guide I have says...

If the author has more than one item published in the same year use lower case letters after the date:

so (Smith et al, 2007a) and (Smith et al, 2007b).
