Automatic Diesel Estate - who made 'em?

    Hi Folks,

Just picking everybody's brains. I'm looking for an older diesel automatic estate car. I currently run an '99 Escort on veg oil, but as with most older Fords the clutch is getting tougher and tougher. Consequently, my back & left hip are in bits from the constant stop start in rush hour traffic.

Any suggestions? The Mercs immediately come to mind, but I'd prefer somthing with smaller engine (2 litre or less?)

    Thanks,

A JDM (Japanese import)? Older 2.0 diesels would tend to be a bit on the slow side, and so weren't paired with autoboxes too often here.

I think his price has dropped a lot.

I think those awful wheels have been cast off now...

While relatively rare, the Toyota Camry 2.2 TD was often paired with an auto-box.

A lot of older camrys have been imported in the last 2 years or so (1994-1999) with automatic gearboxs. Hassle free and reliable, but mpgs will not move much above 40-45
