Can't browse network

Have a strange one here that I can't figure out. I have an old Xbox which I stream video to over my network. It's working fine with a 20m cat5e cable running down the stairs, across the hall and into the sitting room :D

I recently got an SMC wireless bridge which I plugged the xbox into using a xover cable (as per instructions). Both device are on the network but the Xbox can't browse the network. Below are some conflicting test results. The device is definitely in bridge mode not repeater mode.

    1. I can http: to the bridge from my Linux laptop and linux desktop
    2. I can ftp to the xbox from my linux laptop and linux desktop
    3. I can't even ping either over wireless from my windows desktop. I can ping the xbox when it's wired to the network but not the bridge (wirelessly).
    4. I deleted the DHCP lease and rebooted the xbox wirelessly and it picked up a new address to prove it is on the network even though I can ftp to it!
    5. When I try to browse the network from the xbox over wireless it can't find anything. Wired it can browse shares no problem.

My router is a Linksys WRT54G. The bridge is an SMC 2870W EU. Xbox has XBMC on it. Windows box has ZA Pro on it but the local lan range is in the trusted zone and the xbox gets the same IP regardless if it's wireless or wired.

    Any ideas?
