sims2 behaving strangely

    While playing sims2 after a while screen goes blank and displays 'no signal' error/mesage.
    turning monitor on/off doesn't help and the pc is still running but can't get the game or anything back on. Restarting PC helps.
    I heard there were some people having same problem but couldn't find any thread about it on boards. Also heard it's graphic card related.
    Apparently if it's known issue there should be either a patch or at least some fix/advice/explanation?
    And yes I know, the game is cr*p, s*cks and is for girls but I have days when I fancy playing it but just end up annoyed by this.

    Any advice?
