    Doing my nut in.

Is there anything that I can do to stop it.
I rang the helpdesk and they said they only have anti-spam software for staff.

I don't think so. But you can have all emails sent to your account automatically forwarded to a different email address. You won't get the spam in your inbox or at least for gmail as far as I know.

You can do that by going to the 'Email' popup, clicking on 'Options' and inserting a email address at the bottom.

Another obvious sign of computing services ineptitude. The anti-spam system for staff is no good anyway as it is too difficult to use, so I had to put a spam filter on my own machine. There are a load of free spam filters such as Spam Assassin that they could use, and therefore wouldn't have cost problems with rolling it out to everyone. But yet again they choose not to - absolutely no idea why either.

Login to an application, click on a tab, tick a box - complicated?

I'm pretty sick of getting viagra, replica watches and do I want a larger... mail. A few other friends get them too. Dunno how or why though

Just get a Gmail account. Under 'Options' in UCD Connect, insert that email address and vóila spam mail is neatly filed away under 'Spam'.

    Or a Hotmail account.

Sometimes if you sign up for a mailing list for one thing, lots of companies get your address.

I've no problems with it either. It works well for me. I'm surprised there's no filter for students though.

I agree! It's ridiculous; I don't use that email address to sign up for stuff online so I don't know where these companies are getting it. I get about 15 a day and mostly the same stuff mentioned already; replica watches and how to 'please your woman with your giant loverod" (I kid you not, I actually got one with that as the subject).
