    Hey guys,

I was wondering if any of you could give me a dig out on this. I want to make a Christmas compilation disc for a friend. I don't want to put the usual cheesy-assed Christmas songs on it. I am thinking more so along the lines of an alternative mix compiled of 12-15 songs by various artists.

I've only come up with two songs so far for the disc, they are:

    Just Like Christmas - Low
Let Me Sleep - Pearl Jam.

Does anyone else have any more/other suggestions for this mix?

    All ideas welcome :)

Was gonna say that, great song.

Cold White Christmas - Casiotone For the Painfully Alone, beautiful and austere.

Bright Eyes made a christmas album which is worth checking out. My favourite on that is their melancholy version of 'Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas'.

Just get any Trans-Siberian Orchestra stuff. Christmas Eve And Other Stories is their best christmas type album. I listen to them all year round (On right now actually).

Try Beethoven's Last Night for their non-christmas stuff.

One of the best alternative Christmas songs.

    Reindeer - The Knife
    Sanity Clause - Damned
    Snowball - Devo

Christmas music lists are not complete without Simply Having a Wonderful Christmas Time by Paul McCartney. Alright it is cheesy to the extreme but it gives me goosebumps and gets me in the mood for christmas BUT i digress..
Driving home for christmas by Chris Rea. it isn't that cheesy

At my most beautiful by R.E.M. has always struck me as a christmas songs with all those bells

Not sure how Christmassy these few are but they're certainly different.

Merry Christmas (I don't want to fight tonight) - The Ramones
Christmas Time - The Smashing Pumpkins (A great song!)
The Vandals- Hang myself from the tree (er....... maybe not the most cheerful choice)

I'm liking the REM choice :)

How about more of these type of songs people i.e. have a christmassy sound without resorting to using the word christmas, or at least not overkilling it!
