There's a photography competition running at the minute - closing date next wednesday 31st, theme is Diversity.
Changing Perspectives: Equality/Diversity in my University

2007 has been earmarked as the European Year of Equal Opportunities for All to raise awareness, stimulate debate and to emphasise the positive contribution that all people, irrespective of their sex, racial or ethnic origin, religion or belief, disability, age or sexual orientation, can make to society as a whole. This photography competition has been organised by the Equality personnel and Students Union’s in all of the universities in Ireland to contribute towards the aims of the European Year of Equal Opportunities for All by increasing awareness amongst the Irish university population of approximately 16,375 staff and 96,637 students about the equality/diversity of staff and students in universities in Ireland.

This competition is open to staff and students (seperate categories) in all of the seven Universities and you do not need to be an experienced photographer to enter. All you need is a digital camera and the desire to win the top prize of €1,300! A photography class on "Making the Best Use of Your Camera" with the UCC Photography Society has even been organised for Friday 19th October at 1pm in the Glucksman Gallery to help you on your way!

There is double the chance to win as there is a prize fund for each stage of the competition. Stage 1 is the local stage whereby UCC will award €200 to the best staff and the best student photographs and €50 for second place in each category. The winning entries (first place and second place in each category) will then go on to compete in the national finals against the entries from all of the other universities to be judged by an independent panel of experts. The top photographs in each category will get €1,300 and €450 respectively for the runner-up.

The theme of the competition is “Changing Perspectives: Equality/Diversity in my University” and all entries must reflect this theme to be in with a chance of winning. All prizes will be awarded before Christmas. So get flash and submit an entry!

I'm going to try to get one in for the staff category.
