Would I get any Jobseekers benefit/allowance?

    Hi guys,

I am 20 years old, living at home with parents, and taking a year off from college this year. I have a problem with my eyes (Dry Eye Syndrome) which is why I am not going to college (doing college work on a PC for long periods would kill my eyes).

I am also not able to work at the minute because working in shops with bright lights, air conditioning, or air currents can all put me in extreme discomfort. Also if I have a bad day with my eyes then I just have to sit around with my eyes shut - hardly a good employee.

Am I entitled to any jobseekers benefits or allowance or anything? I need the money to help pay for my eye drops and various supplements etc. that I have to take to try and help. My parents are hard up for cash at the minute so I don't want my health problems to be draining more of their money.

Any idea if I could be entitled to any help?

    Thanks

Edit: Sorry ive gotten confused. I think I might be able to get some kind of disability allowance? http://welfare.ie/publications/sw29.html

Ring the Department's information section and they will be able to advise if you can get disability allowance while living at home.

Once you are medically certified as unable to work, and assuming you have the appropriate level of contributions, you will be entitled to benefit.

disability Allowance is means tested. If the OP is 20 it's unlikely he has enough cons unless he worked wgile at college/school.
