Advice for newbie GFX overclocking

    Hey all,

    I bought a fairly pokey rig recently and want to overclock her a bit.

    Whats the best software to use...? It has a pair of NVIDIA GeForce 8800 GTX's...

    Here's the specs:

    Computer:

    rivatuner is by far the best for nivida's.

    Assuming you have a Dell 720 H2O you will not be able to overclock two 8800 gtx cards .

    It's not a Dell 720 H2O - it's a self build from rig...

    sorry thought from the specs it was a Dell two cards in SLI mode will not overclock very much if at all .

    I've had a look at the faq and loaded the app - it seems really involved and complicated, is there a simpler solution?

    If not - fair enough, it just seems kinda heavy...!

    whats the point? an extra 10fps on your already 100+ , if ya want to needlessly kill your cards goo ahead

    hehe , sorry for being blunt , but seriously , what wont play on 2 gtx's? there really is no point overclocking at all ,all you risk is damaging your cards ?

    To be honest, I agree with you - the hardware is up to the job...

    The reason I want to tinker is I'm getting a 'refresh wave' that flows through the screen while playing games like Unreal Tournament 3... it's subtile, but noticable... there's no frame drop - just no smooth image when I look sharply around within a game - could this be something else? an in-game setting perhaps?

    My Monitor DPI is 96 - but I have the option of 120 - would this fix it? (this could have nothing to do with it at all!)

    How do I do it? Is it risky?

    As I said before I'm probably missing something small in a setting somewhere - my rig should have no problem running high end games to the max - it's just this screen flicker when I make sudden moves or pan around that's pissin' me off!

    Turn off Antialiasing. Turn up the resolution. Enable VSync. Done.

    Enabeling v-sync might help with the tearing. But it will also limit the fps you see. As your refreshrate will be 60-75 your fps will be locked to that.

    also , some games tear worse than others ,

    blazing angels has a vsync option and with it enabled of disabled it always tears :(

    I'm running the games at 1920 x 1200 - so I'll enable v-sync and see if it works!
