Only recently got thru cowboy bebop, very good, ending was good.
Got Heat guy J cos it was mentioned in bargain alerts a while back for nearly nothing. Really liked it, buddy cop series with a twist.
Have a ton more to get from the recommendations here though

You hate Akira? That's a pretty strong word. I don't know how anyone could hate something with that high an animation quality, especially the first half.

For example, I really really don't like Ghost in the Shell. Always turn it off with a 'meh' about half way. I can still appreciate the level of quality to the animation and the cinematography though. Certainly wouldn't hate it.

To be honest, I reserve all my hate for The Beatles.

I hate the animation. The sound quality was poor. The chase scenes were below par. Bah all around.

As for your other question, you can try visiting baka-updates to get an idea of which group subs the particular series that you're after (it's not a download site)
That kind of question will get you banned here as well though
