    Hey,

I have been getting very weird behaviour on my dev machine lately. Thought it was a memory (and still do) so got another stick of ram (2gig total) which didnt make a bit of difference.

Basically after a few hours of running Outlook-VS2003-Toad-3/4 IE's and maybe and few excel files, It appears my memory just goes.
Even though a memory monitor i have in sys tray displays 1052 free.

all right click functionality - new browser/applications won't open etc..
up till now i havnt even been able to get an error code to google.

today toad gave me this when trying to open a table -

Anyone any ideas where to start?? Ive ran virus/spyware scans and nothing.
Im lost, it appears it a windows memory management problem but im unsure.

    any help much appreciated

At a guess, I'd say could be the problem:
    4.5 Total Disk : 37.26 Gb
    4.6 Free Disk : 1.48 Gb

Check your paging file.. its very possible that there maybe some corruption there... Do you have a lot of files in the root of the drive that your pagefile is on

    check your event log(application/system)
do you have a load of files/folder in root?

yeah, with a large HD and lots of RAM, its possible that windows is using a page file that is potentially larger than than your remaining disk page.
Regardless, I would def recommend that you either free up 3 to 4 gigs of disk space, or buy a second drive....

Thanks for all the good suggestions.
I have my page file set at 3500 min and 4500 maximum. Is this ok?
unfortunatly its on the c:\ root along with every thing else.
I just deleted 7 gig there so hopefully that will help. i will look for other stuff to delete.

only thing i can see in event log that relates is
Application popup: Error. : System Error. Code: 14.
Not enough storage is available to complete this operation.

For more information, see Help and Support Center at http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/events.asp.

ill try get a bigger harddrive and see.

    thanks for the help

Make sure you do a reboot. Set the page file to a static 2048 size, that should be fine. Problem could be the number of files in the root of the c drive. which can cause the issues

Does having a large number of files in the same folder as the pagefile.sys really make a difference?

Large number of files in the root of the drive can sometimes cause issues.. the famous one was on Win2K it would cause the NTDLR file could not be found boot error.
