    Hi
I'm looking to buy rollerblades, I want to buy them in a shop cos i want to try them on first. Any recommendations on where to purchase?

P.S I've a small foot so kids sizes would do but would rather adults for comfort

You could try http://lazydog.ie/ Lazy Dog is in Dun Laoghaire in Convent Lane.
    Failing that try:
Skate City in Temple Bar ( i know they definately do blades)
    G1 on O'Connell Street.
    Blvd on South Willam Street.
Your better off going to a skate shop rather than a toy shop, better skates, better advice + safety gear etc.

Hey there .. if i can hijack this topic ... :D

I just got a pair of skates, in Argos (wanted something cheap and cheerful to see how i get on). Problem is that, after about 15 mins on them, they feel really tight on my ankles. I wear a pair of heavy socks, but my skin still gets really sore. Is this because the skates were cheapies? Do more expensive skates allow more room at the ankles?

    Thanks !

I bought some in Champion in the end, spent E60 on them they felt tight too but loosened out with a lot of use, dont wear thick socks the thicker they are the more your feet will swell cos the heat when you sweat, your feet swell too in trainers when you run you just dont notice cos the trainers have a bit of give in them. Whatever you do dont loosen them for when your using them cos you loose the support on your ankles and it will be worse in the long run for your bones.

    Happy Skating

Thanks! I bought a pair of K2's from wreckless for my daughter, for Christmas. I havent tried them on (well actually, they're sized 3-6 and im sized 11 .... :p), but they look way more comfortable than mine. The only hard plastic on hers is an ankle brace, whereas mine are like anti-gravity boots!! Mine were cheap and cheerful from Argos!

Hey the same happened to me and I got some thick insoles. They raised my foot up so that it fit better in the curve of the boot! I'm playing hockey in them now and they're fine! try that out!

deepack is right though, dont loosen them! I never had any problems with thick socks though!

So, would the cheap-and-cheerful Argos fellas do if you just want to go for a roll up & down the Dun Laoghaire peirs, Clontarf, The Quays etc? I.E. No tricks?

    Thanks for replies!

I suppose if you didnt mind spending €40 as an 'experiment', the Argos ones would do well .. they do me well as i live in the country and can only use them on the concrete around the outside of my house, which gets monotonous after 20 mins anyhow!

theres a whole vibe started up because the owner clive needed to make a living. Skateboarders dropped skatecity and started to go to G1 on oconnell street, trying to boycot him because he started stocking rollerblades in the mid 90's to keep a shop alive because skateboarding just wasnt doing it anymore.

then in the early 2k they started to stock kites. Which in turn turned the rollerbladers away from the shops.

Theres a vicious circle of stupidity, in all these circles of sports and the only reason that people would say to boycot skatecity is because of their peers. I have no association with skate city other than when i was 14-18 thats where everyone who was anyone who rollerbladed met up to go skating in town, before we would warm up at the bank steps.

I would highly recommend you go into skatecity templebar and ask him about some skates. The guys been around since.. forever and he knows whats needed for what you will want to do.

If he doesnt have it(unlikely) he will help you out and tell you where to go.

I got my rollerblades in Skate City there about a month ago. I assume it was Clive i dealt with, bald chap in his late 30's say. He was bang on, extremely helpful with us. Would definitely recommend anyone buying to go there.

The chap runs a shop in the heart of templebar and does a walk in service and will do same day repairs on products in warrenty. Everything on the internet is 50-80 cheaper because they dont have rental to pay for. The chap has mouths to feed - welcome to the world of business!

Which online sites are good to get the rollerblades more cheaply?

I know wreckless.ie . Are there any others or is that the cheapest in Ireland?

Admittedly, I haven't used mine much either since getting them. I hope to use them more as the evenings draw longer and the weather improves slightly. If I had a blader buddy, it'd be even better!:)

sorry to resurrect an old thread but it was helpful to me even if it didn't find me what I wanted....seems as if G1, Blvd and Skate City are no longer open, I rang champion sports who said they don't do Roller Blades and recommended going to Argos. so it looks like options for 2014 are Argos or Smyths....shame really, I'm in favour of specialist shops even if they cost a bit more...seems they are all victims to online shopping :-( hopefully this update will save others from a bit of legwork

Skate City are still open in Crown alley Temple Bar.
