I just flew out to Newark with Continental today. Have to say, that compared to American Airlines and Aer Lingus, the service on board was superb.

Staff much friendlier. Food that actually tasted of what it should be. Plus they served two meal (lunch and a sandwich). One more than they did on the AL flights! They also seemed to come through the cabin with the bar service a lot more than they did on AL and AA.

All in all, a very pleasant flight with no hassles at all.

Will update how I get on with the return flight!

Just wanted to post to add a bit of balance to this thread (although some already have). I flew out on the 22nd and came back on the 27th and I found Continental to be fine. The stewardesses were quite nice (as in courteous) and the service was decent enough. The flight left on time from Dublin and we got to Newark more or less on time (we were queuing around the airport for about 30 minutes). When we got to Newark coming back we found out that the plane was due to take off 40 minutes earlier than originally scheduled, which was fine as we had arrived in plenty off time. However, this is where I do have one complaint to make though; there was a problem with the air conditioning on the plane and we were delayed 2.15 hours sitting on the runway. It did take about 40 minutes while we were waiting for our slot to take off for the crew to diagnose that there was a problem which is fair enough I suppose (the heat was gradually rising). But in the time after that (a repair crew arrived and did their job in about 15 minutes) and leading up to take off we weren't properly kept informed at all as to what the further delay was. That was pretty annoying. Other than that they were fine and I wouldn't have a problem flying with them again tbh.

Rather than start a new thread is it ok to re use this one?

I'm flying SNN-EWR with them on Sept 11th(!) and have been fortunate enough to have earned an upgrade to business class :D

What levels of comfort and service can I expect?

Very comfortable and modern, way better comfort than BA (although BAs cabin crew were way better and I do think BA are in the process of upgrading all their first class sections). They do take very good care of you, but I have to admit the cabin crew I dealt with there seem to be very full of themselves.

I got bumped to Business Class last year on EWR-DUB route. At the time I was impressed (first time up the front!). Food was good, service was great, but the plane itself was shabby and dated. Unless they've updated the cabin since?

It's a 757-200. I'm not sure of they've fitted fancier seats or better in flight entertainment. Either way I'll have a car & driver waiting at the far side, so will indulge a little methinks :D

    hi

i am flying continental mid november and wondering if anyone has had any recent experience of flying with them - are planes been updated, leg room etc. I checked on seatguru and it says that you have personal tvs, video on demand and saya that the legroom in economy is same as other airlines (31). It says that the plane is a 757

    All of which is correct.

I flew with them in 2007 and found them OK. The leg room isn't bad, and you do have your own telly, I don't remember if it was video on demand or not as I usually try and sleep on trans-atlantic flights. I did find shoulder room tight as on the return flight I shared my row with 2 burly lads (I had the window seat).

Would I fly 'em again? Probably not, as I'm in Boston and catching the connection, via Newark, is a pain and adds 1 to 3 hours onto the travel time. But, if the price is right I'd consider it, or if I lived near Newark. :)

I flew with them from Dublin to Newark about a month ago and the flight was great, food was great and service was great. Flew LAX to Dublin with a stopover in Newark. The legroom was fine (I'm 6" btw). The stewardesses were very attentive and friendly. Would definitely not hesitate to use them again, especially as everytime I go to the states, they seem to work out a lot cheaper than any other airline.

+1, flew with them last month. Leg room good, seats comfy, food pretty good (for airline food). Seat back TV's with video on demand, choice of films pretty good and a nice mix of old and new stuff. Staff aren't overly friendly, but frankly I don't care about that once they are serving me food!

Flights both way were ahead of schedule and no problems with luggage reclaim. This was my second time flying transatlantic with them and both times they have been great. They also seem to be very competitivly priced, so they would be my first choice for trans atlantic.

Don't worry too much about the negative comments, there will always be people who have had a bad experience with an airline. For every one complaint, there will be 100 happy customers that you don't hear from!

We flew with Continental for the first time last Jan to EWR. It was a great flight. We were able to book the extra legroom seats over and back, our seats had a plug so we brought the laptop, great AVOD, edible food and nice staff. They were also by far the cheapest. Would definitely be my first choice if going to NYC again.

Yes, all non alcoholic drinks are free, alcohol can only be purchased with a credit card. On my flight I had a beef lasagna and a turkey and cheese roll. On the way back I had ravioli with sauce and then a croissant for a snack. I think chicken was the other choice for the main meal.

i flew with them recently shannon to newark, the cabins are small, not much bigger than ryanair in truth, not much legroom or indeed area to walk around, compared to say uniteds transatlantic planes.

entertainment options however were the best i have seen on an airline, you have your own tv screen and 40-50 movies to choose from

Getting the video on demand in economy, it'd be nice in 1st class if there was a pole and hot chicks would dance around it, giving free lapdances too :D

Has anyone flown with continental from Dublin to Newark recently?

Just wondering if the aircraft are 3-4-3 seating formation or just 3-3 & do you have your own screen in front of you?

    Cheers

3 - 3 (It's only a 757) and they all have individual, on demand entertainment.
