Extension Layer

    It's oddly hard to find a definition of what an extension layer is on google.

    I need to express what it is clearly.

    My attempt:
    "An extension layer is when you build upon the existing system, reusing and extending the parts relevant to the new application"

    The specific context is SysML being specified as an extension layer to UML 2.1
