Family Law - Need some advice

Hi, can anyone help me with a bit of advice for a friend of mine?
What legal reason, if any, can be given to postpone a summons to family law court?
My friend would like to postpone by approximately 2-3weeks, to give her a chance to have everything she needs in order, but is it possible to arrange a delay?
And if so, how can she go about it?

All advice would be sincerely appreciated as there is a small child at a centre of this dispute.

Thanks in advance for you help.

her solicitor goes in on the day and asks for it to be adjourned. There's usually no problem in getting it.
