OK Folks seeing as theres a bit of traffic here for once its a good time to do this.
Post your season award candidates here! I doubt we'll get enough votes to conclude winners, but it'll be interesting to see what people think. Base it on the regular season only, and remember folks there are other teams than Boston so try to keep objective!

So here are the categories, vote for one player for each:

    AL Starting Pitcher
    NL Starting Pitcher
    AL Relief Pitcher
    NL Relief Pitcher
    AL Batting MVP
    NL Batting MVP
    All MLB Defensive Infielder
    All MLB Defensive Outfielder
    Defensive Play of the Year
Crazy Random Moment of the Year
Achievement of the Year (eg Hit streak, scoreless innings pitched etc)

I'll vote later...too tired to think now!

Here it goes, from (hopefully) a not too biased Red Sox fan!!!!!!

AL Starting Pitcher: Josh Beckett (only 20 game winner in the majors)
NL Starting Pitcher: Jake Peavy (save for the one game playoff!!)
AL Relief Pitcher: JJ Putz (dominating, scary stuff)
NL Relief Pitcher: T Saito (1.40 ERA, big save %)
AL Batting MVP: A-rod (can't be anyone else)
NL Batting MVP: Matt Holliday (Rollins close second)
All MLB Defensive Infielder: John McDonald (some range!!)
All MLB Defensive Outfielder: Coco Crisp (a little bias!!)
Defensive Play of the Year: Any one of Nick Punto's barehanded ones (incredible)
Crazy Random Moment of the Year: Bond's 756 drama
Achievement of the Year: Colorado Rockies run to the World Series

    Good post!!

    :D A non-Jays fan knows him...woohoo!

Here are mine....a bit overdue, it pretty much writes itself:

AL Starting Pitcher: Josh Beckett :( Really dont like him, but cant argue.
    NL Starting Pitcher: Jake Peavy
    AL Relief Pitcher: J Papelbon
    NL Relief Pitcher: T Saito
AL Batting MVP: A-RodNL Batting MVP: Matt Holliday
All MLB Defensive Infielder: John McDonald (Jeter my arse)
All MLB Defensive Outfielder: I dont really know, so I'll say Torii Hunter, safe bet
Defensive Play of the Year: This (biased to the max)->

Crazy Random Moment of the Year: Milton Bradley getting injured by his coach!
Achievement of the Year: Meh...Rockies I suppose...

Not saying this cause i'm a BoSox fan but how Jeter has won 3 straight gold gloves is beyond me.. Most over-rated defensive player in a long time. Imagine on any other team a superior player (A-rod) moving position. NO way..

McDonald for gold glove!!!! (shame about the light hitting but guess ya cant have it all...)

If you give him a hit for every one he took away from opposing batters that a regular SS wouldnt get to, he's a .300 hitter!

As i said lads... Kevin Youkilis definitely deserved an award this year. And he got one, the Gold Glove!! Many congrats to him.

Sabathia got the Cy Young. Wow! Woulda put my house on Beckett getting that in these pro-Sox/Yankees days.

WTF???? How is that possible??? Beckett was the most dominant pticher in baseball this year, and the only 20 game winner!

........and won by a huge margin too. The voting system is f***ed up tbh.

Award is only based on regular season and it was a tight call based on that. CC had more inns, K's and less run support.. They should announce the award at the end of the regular season to avoid such disasters as this.. Beckett stuffed CC twice in the post-season so the award looks flawed now as Beckett proved in the post-season he's the top pitcher..

CC deserved it. I meant that the actual process and the fact that its only writers and that they all have equal weight is just hard to be accurate aout the best in a tight race.

Not saying that Francona deserved to win manager of the year (think Wedge did a great job in Cleveland and deserved to win) but how Francona finished 4th (only got 4 2nd place votes and 3 3rd place votes out of 28) is crazy.. Yes the sox have a big payroll but the guy just doesn't get enough credit for the job he does. I suppose he will have to just settle for the world series ring instead!!! Well done Wedge though, did a great rebounding job after '06...
