L31mr0d, the default method of changing suit mode, is to hold down middle mouse, and then swivel the mouse around the center axis of the thingy...

You'll get it :D it works really well can when you memorize the positions of teh suit modes you can change almost instantly

this method is too slow. I like to be able to speed run at an enemy then quickly switch to strength and punch him into the air. I'm getting fairly used to just tapping my mouse 5 button and changing suit modes

Ahhh hah! I finally got it playable!

I removed the beta 64bit drivers and downloaded the current ones and it seems to run better!

I'm trying the 169.01 release for the sake of Crysis. A little experimentation shows that the combination of DX10 and 64bit will not start. Any other combination runs fine, though the DX9 version is much faster than the DX10, regardless of 32bit or 64bit.

How can you choose between DX10 and DX9? I defaulted back to the 163.69 drivers

i tought anywhere from low to high was DX9, and very high settings were DX10 settings?

Finally got to play this in work today (my home computer wouldn't stand a chance of running it)

Have to say, when you've been playing Gran Turismo 5 Prologue all week, the graphics in Crysis don't look all that photo realistic by comparison, though I appreciate they're vastly more complex than a sterile race course and cars.

So I was strangely disappointed by the graphics because they didn't blow me away (all on high), but the physics and playing around with the suit made up for that. Being able to go invisible and observe and plan in that state made fights a lot more interesting, as did using the environment and physics. I don't know if I'd pick it up though, playing with it as a sandbox was more fun than trying to progress through it. I'll try it on Very High tomorrow, never got round to trying the work around for it in XP.

You can just right click on the games menu entry and choose DX9 mode.

    little video I made

Dx9 (in xp) did that cvar thing for very high..

    I get 10-13fps on 2560X1600

    about 20-25fps on 1280X1024 ( I think)

its playable but looks ****e with res not being at its native on my monitor!

Demo gets a 6/10 rating from me, good but not great. Seems like i'm replaying farcry in it tbh

+1 that's my feeling too. Except Farcry looked better in some parts. I think the huts/houses etc are terrible looking.

Solid enough game but apart from the nanosuit it feels just like a farcry expansion to me.
No doubting gfx and physics are great but not much better than the COD4 engine which performs much better.

    Edit: sorry double post

really? i would have said cod4 looks "good" while crysis has a wow factor. in cod4's case they use water painting backgrounds a-la playstation1, which boosts performance but looks horrid.

and i don't think cod4 counts as having physics as the only time you see anything remotely resembling physics is when a car blows up.

screw the game, I can shoot down trees, wooo there goes another one timbeeer ......
best "new" feature in a game in years :)

  • Moderators, Computer Games Moderators Posts: 14,711 Mod ✭✭✭✭Dcully

Agreed,i wasnt taking into account the backgrounds.
Crysis with open ended non linear gameplay needs such rendered backgrounds with its huge maps.
COD4 is mostly close combat by comparison so not a proper comparison.

Also agree about physics, tbh i didnt even realise i typed physics in my post :o

  • Subscribers Posts: 6,408 ✭✭✭conzy

all the backgrounds in Crysis are real geometry and can be explored....

    You cant explore .bmps :p
